What is blck powder under the motor of belt drive Maytag washer MAV4057AWW

The powder is belt wear. Not to worry though, they last a long time. There is always some wear on all belts as they slide into the channel on the pulley.

I need step by step instructions on how to replace a motor coupler in a sears kenmore washing machine, model # 11092586400. The part # that is being replaced is 336164 or substitute part # of 285735a.

The motor and coupler looks like this:

Once the case is off you can get to the innards

The pump snaps onto the motor with clips and the motor clips onto the ******.

Tip it over on its back and that makes it easy to install the coupler

When installing the new coupler take the time not to jam the coupler up
into the ****** or motor and bind up the works. Line em up and snap er back together.

Agaitator is locked but motor is running

The most likely cause is the rubber motor coupler has broken. This part is readily available online, ebay, Sears Parts Direct etc. It is inexpensive, and not that difficult to replace. The motor has to be removed, slide off the broke coupler pieces, and slide on the new coupler, reinstall the motor.

How do you slide the electrical connectors off of the latch assembly on the maytag dishwasher............. Seems like they are locked?

Well everyone I've seen( i assume you mean the door latch) has 2 terminals, one on each side, that are simple post tabs. The wire has the female terminal and the latch is a male. It simply slides on and off. HOWEVER, this is often difficult especially on an older washer. Over time they corrode together and this makes it difficult to remove them. After doing so you may need to replace the female terminals as they may come apart if too badly corrode. I can only suggest slow steady pull pressure until they come apart. I would also suggest using pliers, preferably needle-nose, to grasp the female(wire end) to pull with.
Hope this helps.

Hi. My washer suddenly stopped running the high speed spin. The drum will roll for the cycle and rinse but it will not spin at the end so the clothes are coming out soaking wet. Any suggestions? ...

HI there,

Well first of all you can check the motor coupler-
To test the motor coupler, re-start the washer in its spin cycle. Let the machine run for a minute, and then open the lid and notice whether the tub is spinning:
If it's spinning when you lift the lid, the coupler is fine.
If it isn't spinning then you may have a broken coupler. many washers use a small, relatively inexpensive device called a motor coupling. This plastic-and-rubber component is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. When that happens, you need to replace it. Please post comments for more help or information.......

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Square drive pin for Osterizer blenders?

I simply slid a small screwdriver in through one of the holes under the base to prevent the fan from spinning and unscrewed the pin counterclockwise using some small channel lock pliers. No disassembly necessary.

Need to plastic coupler that holds turn table in place

If you need a replacement turntable coupler, you can find this part listed as item number 942560 at repairclinic.com. Just type in your model number.

To replace, all you need to do is carefully slide something under the existing coupler (if you can) and pry up. The coupler will pull off the motor shaft.

If you cannot access the coupler due to the way it was broken, simply remove the bottom panel UNDER the oven. With the panel removed, locate the small turntable motor and loosen the mounting screws to remove. The coupler should be easily accessible with the motor out of the unit. Make sure you reinstall the turntable motor and bottom panel BEFORE you try to install the new coupler. The coupler needs to be installed from inside the oven cavity by placing it in the opening in the oven floor and pushing straight down onto the motor shaft.

If you have questions, or require additional assistanc, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Whirlpool washer Ultimate Care II drains but doesn't spin. Loud grinding noise. Is it the coupler or the transmission? Or something else. The machine is probably a 2004. We bought new March 2005.

The coupler would be an easy assessment to consider. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

I posted the link that explains how to replace a coupler, because it also explains how to get to it. It is common for these couplers to break over time. Either, the plastic pieces break, or the rubber bushing shears apart. A common sign is to find black filings under the washer. Another common problem with earlier models, is the center hole in the coupler rounds out and begins to slip on the transmission or drive motor shaft. The manufacturer has come out with an improved coupler that has a steel grommet in the center. The part number is provided with the link. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you require further assistance.

NOTE: If it is determined that the coupler is NOT bad, the gearcase (transmission) would be your next logical choice. I can also explain how to replace one of these (if required). It's not a difficult job.

Kenmore Model 20722990 broken coupler

Stand it back up. Remove the end caps on the front of the control panel, (there is a screw under it). take out the 2 screws. The control panel will come forward then flip up. Next use a screwdriver to pop out the spring clamps that hold the cabinet onto the frame. They are about 3/4 of an inch wide and about 3 inches from each side. Disconnect the lid switch. Now you can tilt the cabinet away from the back of the machine, while tilting the bottom front of the cabinet will slide out and the cabinet can be set aside. now you will have access to the motor etc. Release the clamps holding the pump onto the motor. Now you should see two screws that hold the motor clamps, one above and one below the motor shaft, remove those. Use a flat blade screwdriver to pop off the clamps holding the motor. pull motor out to expose coupling. Make sure to use part # 285753A. repair sould take 10 minutes.
