It can also be a setting in the squelch programming. I don't deal in Baofeng, but look for reverse burst squelch, 180, or some other ways to change the tone being transmitted.

Check to see if you have a beep (roger) setting turned on. Other than that, it may be something in the switching circuitry that is causing this. Are any of the other radios in you group the Baofeng GT-3? This is a real hard one to pin down without some hands on and test equipment.

My Baofeng #3 button will not work when i try to program it. All other buttons work but this one. Do I have a faulty radio?

I have used and abused several Baofeng UV-5R radios over the past two years. They are a good radio. They do miss some calls that the Motorola does not miss. I have destroyed one Baofeng because of stress to the antenna. This was a result of rough handling. In your case, if you have a new Baofeng and you have determined that the "3" button is not working, you probably have a defective radio. I cannot think of a scenario where the 3 button would not function on a good radio.

I bought a set of 2 way radios to keep touch with hiking partners. I've never used 2 way radios before and I'm clue,es as to how they function

If you tell us make and model, you may get a better answer. The instructions may have a better answer too.

Basically:
  1. Charge or put in batteries.
  2. Turn both radios on.
  3. Turn the volume up.
  4. Tune both radios to the same channel. Pick a channel that is quiet. Quiet means very little chatter and very little white noise. You can make a channel more quiet by increasing squelch but increasing squelch decreases range.
  5. Both radios are now listening.
  6. When you want to talk, press the talk button and say what you want to say.
  7. Remember you are just talking to anyone listening on that channel, so be nice.

I need to tune my baofeng gt-3 mk2 to the same frequency as my baofeng bf-888s I can hear the bf-888s with my gt-3 but cannot talk I've tried every website why cant i talk over it????

1. Make sure both radios are transmitting and receiving on the same frequency (no repeater offset).
2. Either turn off CTCSS tone or make sure both radios are set to the same tone on both Tx and Rx.
