First, make sure the HDD is properly inserted and hooked up. One error indicates that it may not be properly connected.

Next, you will need to boot into BIOS and ensure the HDD is added to your computer.

Finally, you will need to use a boot disk to load the operating system (OS) so you can format the HDD and install the OS onto it. The boot media will probably be a CD-ROM, as this machine probably does not have a floppy drive.

If I don't have the disk, what other alternative do I have?

If you do not have the disk, then you will have to try a free OS such as Linux (Ubuntu). This can be downloaded from the internet. If you need a different OS, then you will have to purchase the media and software license.

This is a damaged screen. You need to take it to a repair shop and have someone replace the screen, or just put up with it. The screen you're talking about will be expensive, so it's up to you whether it's worth the money.

I just completed a screen replacement on my Dell Inspiron N5030 laptop. The screen required replacement after it fell to the ground. The replcaement went fine. However, the machine never booted to

If it won't get as far as the BIOS menu the mother board maybe damaged, if it passes the POST but can't boot, try removing the hdd and check for damage.

Toshiba A305 black screen

You can start by removing the HDD and testing, replace if necessary. Reseat the Memory Mods as well. Has there been any damage? Drop? I assume the blinking LED is the HDD?

Dropped notebook, get only black screen, error loading operating system.

The notebook needs to be opened to see if the hard disk drive (HDD) has simply become detached from it's slot and slotting it back in fixes the problem. Alternatively, if the HDD has suffered shock damage from when it was dropped, a replacement HDD might resolve the problem but the Operating System, drivers and programs will have to be installed on the new HDD.

Did you change the MOBO?

Please try to change the battery or charge the battery again or can check by your nearest technician.
If there is any courser blinking any on the screen think your LCD is ok.
The HDD is defected.

If there is no courser ,The hdd is spinning thing LCD could be damaged,

Your OS is not booting. There may be few reasons.
1) Your hard disk is damaged and your BIOS does not recognise your HDD. Goto BIOS setup and see whether your HDD is shown. If it does not appear there, you may have to replace the Hard Disk.
2) Your HDD is recognised by the BIOS but Master Boot Record (MBR) is missing or damaged. Try booting from an XP CD. See whether Windows Setup detects your HDD. If the setup says there is an existing installation, try repairing it. After repairing, reboot and see whether you can use the computer. Otherwise make a new installation.

No picture on screen, just lines

Well, I'll be honest the news here is not good. I'm hoping that the system is under warranty and you have complete care accidental damage coverage, because if it is not under warranty, this could get expensive.

From your description, the minimum you may have is a loose video cable connection, so try reseating it: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1525/en/SM/display.htm#wp1179838

if that makes no change, next try connecting system to an external monitor, and Fn+F8 to initialize the external port and see if you can get video on an external monitor. If you do, then the LCD will need replacement. You can get LCDs on Ebay

If you have no video on either internal nor external, then the motherboard is likely damaged. Again, they are available on EBay. Both Motherboards and LCD runs aroujnd $150 each.

Last, the hard drive may have taken a beating in the crash, so it is possible, that after getting video fixed, you have have a damaged HDD that will need replacement. That is the best news as hard drives are about $80 to $100 and that usually includes upgrading to a larger hard drive.

If you can get video, you can run HDD diagnostics from the F12 screen or boot to the resource CD and run diags on the HDD.
