Here are two methods to turn off background music, one of these should work depending on which Panasonic phone system your phone is connected to.
1) With phone idle, press the 1 key on the dial pad (turns off background music when it is on and turns on background music when it is off).
2) With phone idle, press intercom button then dial *751 on the dial pad followed by 0 on the dial pad to turn off background music(confirmation tone will be heard) and end by lifting handset and replacing in cradle. To turn background music on, press intercom button then dial *751 on the dial pad followed by 1 or 2 on the dial pad to select the background music source(confirmation tone will be heard) and end by lifting handset and replacing in cradle.
Sounds like your music on hold is also your background music. Need to use the background music on/off code to toggle this feature to the off setting. Don't have it in front of me, should be Function,49, Function.
you would need to enter system programming mode and change MB 1-8-31 to external. The internal music is pretty bad. This works on elite and ipk platforms. It depends on your system type. Look at the phone system and see what letters it has on it. ldtsnj.com
You should be able to adjust LCD contrast when phone is idle, just use the up/down arrow button to adjust it (don't go off-hook). If you have background music set, the above procedure will adjust the music volume instead. You can turn Background music on and off by pressing <Feature>,2,6 when your phone is idle. Alternatively, you may press <Speaker> 6,0,2 and then use the UP/Down arrow key to adjust LCD contrast.
The NEC phone system needs to have a radio attached to distribute the music to the phone sets.
It is not illegal to play the radio through a phone system (radio advertizements pay for it)
