Hi Julie,
I'm very happy you finally got your mower going. Thank you for letting me know. You say it may be running a little hot. Are you using a multi-grade oil, like 10-30wt. or anything like that? Most mowers use a straight 30 wt. motor oil. If you are using anything thinner or lighter than that, it can cause the mower to get hot and will eventually cause it to seize up on you again. If the oil is too thin, the viscosity will break down faster and won't lubricate the moving parts as well.
If you ever have any type of problem around the house with just about anything, I'd be happy to try and help you out. I've worked in construction for the past 30 years, went to school to be a mechanic and have even worked as a free climber trimming trees. So, even if I don't know the answer, we can figure it out together. My email address is: fishrbaithooks@yahoo.com
It's been my pleasure trying to help you figure out your mower. Now, I'm ready for the next challege. Take care and have fun mower your jungle. LOL!
Sincerely,
Bill

Testimonial: "Brilliant answer because I thought the same and took the float bowl off and had a look. The carb was cleaned last year and there didn't apear to be any dirt restricting movement."

High consumption of fuel

If you have serviced the engine, changed oil and oil filter and air filter and spark plugs and cleaned the carburettor or cleaned your throttle body and injectors, and its still heavy on fuel then try the following. Adjust the carburettor air and fuel. Take off the distributor cap and clean the rotor and spark pionts in the cap of carbon build up by means of light sand paper. Same applies to the spark/ high tension leads and coil lead metal connection points. Check distributor timing as well. If the engine smokes, do a compression test. If results are beneath factory specifications, remove cylinder head, replace the valve stem seals and re-seat the valves and or replace the pistons and piston rings. Basically engine overhall

How to fix a 3.5 lawn mower?

HELLO,
You can fix these yourself, all you have to do is to follow the instructions below,
1 Remove the spark plug lead from the spark plug and move away from cylinder head. Always do this before attempting any repairs to a lawnmower.
2 If your lawnmower is a "four stroke" mower (separate gasoline and oil), tip the mower so that the spark plug is pointing skyward. Never tip it on its side with the spark plug to the ground.
3 If your lawnmower is "2 stroke" (oil and gasoline mixed) turn off fuel tap. You can tip a two stroke mower any way that is suitable to you.
4 To change a blade, or blade disc, it is often easier to remove the spark plug and feed a length of string into the cylinder head to 'lock' the piston while trying to un-do the blade bolt(s).
5 Check the motor's "air filter" while doing this sort of maintenance as a dirty or clogged air filter will affect engine performance and increase fuel consumption of your mower. Symptoms of a clogged air filter include inability to start, starting and quickly stopping after several sputters, or a weak idle. You may also see oily or smoky exhaust.
6 If your mower is a "four stroke" model, change the oil at least once a year. When it is tipped over with the spark plug in the air, is a good time to remove the "oil fill" plug and drain oil into an old ice-cream container for recycling.

I hope this will help to solve the problem.....

After trying to run a water hose through it to clean my Toro 650 190 CC lawn mower has refused to start for me, let me add before the hose I turned it upside down to get out excess grass, Now I've...

Only tilt a lawnmower backwards toward the handle end (spark plug end raises) Other ways move the oil around to places it doesn't need to go. Now you probably have gas in the oil....check it or change it (milky looking or smells like gas..contaminated...might need changing anyway...You probably will have oil in the carb and it will blow smoke...You probably filled the oil breather with oil and it will drain down...causing smoke also. This was the wrong thing to do A 2 year old unit should be mechanically sound..Check the air filter, spark plug and carburetor for oil fouling. Remove the bowl on the carb to help get some of the oil out...it will leak gas when you do.

Nannie what can be wrong with my power devil petrol lawn mower the engine wont keep running then cuts out petrol and oil ok

Check air filter, check screen in bottom of fuel tank,
New spark plug and also check the spark.
If there is a weak spark, the coil may need to be replaced.

If you have good spark, clean air filter, and clean fuel tank screen, then the carberator will need to be pulled of and cleaned out with solvent

Petrol lawnmower cutting out.

try changing the spark plug. if that doesnt work check the fuek lines for hole and leaks, check the fuel filter and clean if necessary. remove the carbuerator and inspect the gasket; it should be soft and flexible, if it seems hard or brittle replace it. clean the carb with carb cleaner sray (available at any local auto parts store) and compressed air. make sure you get inside the small fuel rail holes. also check the primer bulb for pin holes and proper seating/seal.
