It may be as simple as disconnecting the DVD player from the TV
and unplugging TV for an hour to reset. If you can reach the menu after connecting, review the manual and DVD options.

SOURCE: unlock region code on Sony CD/DVD Player DVP-NS57P

I don't have a solution, but I know that the one about "press Display, Top Menu, Clear, Power" doesn't work.

Try this,
1) Plug the DVD Power Cord to the wall jack, but DO NOT Turn On the player;
2) With the Remote Control, press: Display, Top Menu, Clear and Power;
3) It will enter in the Service Mode;
4) Choose option 2 and then 4;
5) It will ask for an Input Code and Current Code (its 5 spaces), press 1245 and then Zero;
6) Leave all Zero erasing 1245, and on the bottom field all Zero too, then press Enter;
7) So the DVD Display will show a Zero (all Region-Free),     then press Power to Turn Off.

SOURCE: Need to turn OFF progressive scan on Sony DVD DVP-NS57P

With the remote: While in STOP mode, press the DISPLAY button. Use up/down buttons to select SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select CUSTOM.Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select SCREEN SETUP. Press Enter. Use up/down buttons to select PROGRESSIVE. Press Enter. The manual is a bit indistinct after this, but I think the prompts will direct you. Just turn Progressive OFF.

Why original DVDs appear in Black and white only when palyed on the Sony DVP-NS57P player?

Usually, when you get a black and white version of the film, either the cable connection is messed up or the dvd signal and the tuner are mismatched (say NTSC TV getting a PAL signal from the dvd).

The cable mismatch would be connecting composite video output (using the AV cable that came with the unit) to one of the three video jacks of the component video input on the TV. The obvious first thing to check is that the cables are good and in the correct configuration (yellow to yellow for composite or red, green and blue to red, green and blue). Try a new cable in case there is a damaged cable, particularly with a component video cable.

The tuner mismatch is more common with the handheld dvd players.

I hope this helps.

there is a switch at the top to use controls from dvd , then tv, wtc. switch it over or call Sony and get a new one. Make sure the sensor on the unit is not blocked.

SONY DVP-NS57P does not display video

If your TV has no input selector but has a video input, the TV probably "hides" the video input between the lowest channel on the tuner and the highest channel. That means if your tuner goes from channel 2 to channel 119, the video input will be between 119 and 2. The best way to see if this is the case is to slect channel 2 and then use the up/down channel selector to go down and see if you find the video input. Let me know if this works!
