Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Just bought this bar fridge second hand and the cold does not seem to be circulating throughout the fridge section, however, the freezer is totally freezing up.

Is this just a symptom of these type of bar fridges? Or could there be something blocked or a need to re-gas? What can be done?

This model does not have a fan as it looks manual defrost type. When have you defrost the freezer. In case ice builds up to fast check the door gasket seal. Do not use any sharp objects to defrost

Freezers high tempeture light is on and freezer is not getting cold

Door left open usually starts a defrost failure, the evaporator gets blocked with frost and the fan motor can't circulate cold air into the fridge section- while the freezer fan is running, put your hand in front of the slots where the cold air should be blowing in the fridge section- if you don't feel air flow, you have a blockage. Fan Problems
One of the most common reasons for the freezer to start failing is called "frost free failure." Ice can build up on the evaporator coils over time, and this ice builds up until it starts blocking the fan. The fan is responsible for circulating cold air throughout the freezer, so if it is blocked the freezer will not be able to freeze any food.
You can usually check this by removing an access panel in the back of the freezer to inspect the coils. If ice is built up on the coils, a hairdryer can assist in defrosting them.
It's also possible that the fan is not running at all. If the fan is burned out or the motor isn't running, cold air can't circulate through the freezer and everything will melt. You can normally hear the fan motor switch on and off from time to time. Listen for it and if you can't hear it coming on for an extended period of time, the motor may need repair or replacement. The wires connecting to the fan may be the problem, preventing the fan from receiving electricity.

Other Causes
Several other problems could be keeping your freezer from freezing:
There could be leaks in one or several of the hoses in the refrigerator, which results in the cold air being lost instead of circulating properly throughout the fridge and freezer.
If you have the freezer so full that the cold air can't circulate, your food will thaw even though the freezer isn't malfunctioning. Always leave some space open in the freezer and try to not store food right up against the cooling vents.
The thermostat might have shorted out, which means the freezer can't accurately determine how cold it is. If this is the case, the refrigerator would probably not be working, either.
If your defrost drain becomes clogged, the water in the line will just refreeze over and over again, which could damage the lines as well as the fan. Always check the drain and make sure no sludge is building up in it if you have a self-defrosting refrigerator.
Always try to keep the freezer door closed for long periods of time. The more the door is opened, the more warm air is let in and cold air is released. If the door is opened frequently, the freezer could be warming faster than the fridge can cool it, which will thaw your food.

Hope this would help.

Have a nice day : )

Freezer seems to be ok. But refrigerator is not cold??? any simple fixes would be greatly appreciated

Somewhere in your fridge should be a fan that circulates air from the freezer section toi the fridge section. Chances are it is not running.

Top of freezer not freezing, bottom of fridge is?

Could be the evaporator fan motor is not working. This is what circulates the air from the freezer to the refrigerator section.

Frost in freezer fridge warm

Sounds like the circulating fan behind the rear panel inside the freezer section is starting to go bad, This problem is very hard to diagnose because the fan still spins but at a much lower rate than needed to circulate chilled air thru the freezer and the frig. The minimum cost for parts and labor is around $300.00.

Freezer staying cold but fridge is getting hot

More likely than not there is a blockage of ice bettween the freezer and the refridgerator. most fridges work to get the freezer cold as a priority. Then the cold freezer air is circulated throughout the rest of the unit to keep the fridge cold. Thats why you may hear a fan running in the fridge unit while the compressor is not on. Unplug and open the doors to warm the inside. Look at the plastic piece bettween the two units and remove. See if there is ice build up and use a hair dryer to melt, dry area out and restart the unit by plugging back in or turning temp dial. Hope this helps.

Cold freezer warm fridge.

That sound was the evaporator fan motor in the freezer. This circulates the cold air from the freezer into the fresh food section. If this is not running you need to check for power to it. If the fan has power to it but not running, replace it. It should be located behind freezers back wall inside of freezer near top.

Freezer/fridge won't get cold enough

Madezmom, you have a defrost issue. If your model starts with 106 you more than likley have a bad defrost bi-metal, I will attach a picture of bad one. This sits on the evaporator in the freezer section behind the panel. You will have to remove the shelves and remove the back panel. Defrost the evaporator completely. The part number for the bi-metal is 2196155. See if yours is bulged like the one in the attached photo. If so, that's your problem..Catriver..post back.
