I replaced the magenta ink tank and got the message that the cartridge was no recognized so bought another new one, CANON OEM, and it still says
U043

I cannot scan either with it locked up like this and the stop/reset button does nothing when I hold it down for several seconds. HELP :(

I had the same problem with a Canon Pixma MP800 here is the procedure I went through to fix it. I removed the new cartridge then taking a clean tissue I gently wiped the front of the ink well were the the electronic chip in the cartridge meets the ink head. I replaced the new ink cartridge and the red light came on. I closed the cover the printer returned to normal working mode!

I have a canon mp510 pixma same message U043 and a u150 fault.
I cant see any chip to replace and have replaced my original cartridges with a non branded cheaper type, this might be why. Does this make a difference or is this the same problem occurring with replacement canon cartridges as well.
Dont want to buy genuine ones if its not going to make any difference.
Anyone who can help me would be appreciated

I have the same problem with a Cannon pixma MP610 wich costed me more than 200 euros in Romania, it worked for 1 month, then gives me the same message , it seems nothing fixes it...Canon i thought something else about you till yesterday!
