Alright my girlfriend just got an xbox and she has everything set up, but she cant connect to live because a text pops up that says that it requires an update but she said that it has said that 5 times....

The easiest way to update your console software is to connect to Xbox LIVE. To update your console by using Xbox LIVE, all you need is an Internet connection.
  1. Connect your Xbox 360 console to the Internet. To learn how, please see How to connect to Xbox LIVE.
  2. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  3. Select Network Settings.
  4. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
  5. Select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
  6. Select Yes if you are prompted to update the console software.

If you receive a connection error, try using the Xbox LIVE Connect Solution.

Console update did not install successfully?

If her system says that she needs an update then likely her connection should be getting to Live. You might need to clear her cache first and then try the steps above. Here is how you will clear your cache:

To clear the system cache

  1. Go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Memory.
  3. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller.
(It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)
  4. Select Clear System Cache.
  5. When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes:

WD Pasport USB Storage. Light goes on whirring sound but does not show connection to laptop with windows 7

Once connected to the computer via cables or wireless signals, the passport storage device is recogniseable from the list of devices added. Search from the computers storage devices area to ascertian that devices as successfully added. Also attempt to store data on the device to ascertain functionality.

The playstation 3 does not work with certain games saying there is an error on the router (error code: 80710723) How can we open more ports on the router? Thanks for your help

Generally what happens is that progress will stall whilst you are trying to update the firmware or software/games on your PS3, causing it to be corrupted. Your console is then unable to function properly, and you are left trying to "pick up the pieces" as it were. The PS3 error 80710723 is one of these system update errors, and is often experienced by gamers who use wireless connections to update their firmware or games.

So how can you fix PS3 system update error? Here are a few steps you can take to try and fix the 80710723 error code yourself.

  1. In your System Options/Network Settings you need to go and disable a setting called "media server". Doing this has been reported to fix the PS3 system update error in a number of different cases.
  2. If you are using a wireless network connection then switch to a wired connection and attempt to update your console. Wireless connections can have interference, or fail from time to time. Therefore it is better to use a wired Internet connection where possible.
  3. As a last ditch resort you can actually download the update from the Sony website onto your PC, then load that update onto a USB stick and plug it into your PS3 and carry out the update process from there. However, it is best to actually try and fix your connection problems first.

Hello, unfortunately there are only two ways to perform a system software update. Via internet, or system storage device. I would advise taking it to a friend or relative's if they have wireless internet? Here is instructions on how to set up your wireless internet. On the playstation main menu, go to settings then network settings. Select wireless then select scan, select the access point you wish to use. Then check the SS-ID for the access point, select the security you wish to use. Enter the encryption key and when you have finished this a list off connections will appear. Save your settings, test the connection and confirm the connection test results. Your ready to update the console. Any further questions please feel free to ask. Thanks for using fix ya.

Its telling me the hard disc is corrupt and is reloading it but it doesn't fix it and takes ages but is the same

Your hard drive has a problem and needs to be formatted. this has happened to me twice already but not with the original hard drive that came with the ps3, I changed mine to a 500 gig drive which had the problems.

the bad news is that you have lost everything that you saved onto the drive and need to reformat and reinstall the ps3 operating system.

If you go through the system settings there is an option to format the drive. Do that.
Then you need to get a USB flash drive, and follow the steps below

Download the update and save the file to a compatible storage device such as Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, a USB or PSP.

Before starting, use your PC to create a folder named "PS3" in the storage media or USB. In this folder, create a folder named "UPDATE" (the folder name is case sensitive and must appear in capital letters). Once the UPDATE folder is created, download and store the update for PS3 system software.

Once the update saved, remove the storage media and connect to your PS3 via the slots under the slot cover, or USB, depending on the storage medium used.

Once the storage media connected, go to Settings on the home menu of the PS3, select System Update, then update via Storage Media. Select the storage media connected to the PS3 installs the update data stored there.

Good luck.

Maybe you need to clear your cache!

You can clear your cache by following these steps:
  1. On your xbox console,go to my Xbox, select System Settings and then in it ,select memory
  2. Highlight any storage device(like hard disk, etc) and Press Y. (Do not press A)
  3. even if you had selected one device,it would clear for all devices.
  4. Select Clear System Cache
  5. Select Yes
  6. Wait till the clearing is over.
Now check whether you can update!

I have seen this happen alot when updating firmware using dailup or wireless access and not havin a strong signal. I would suggest resetting the router by using the reset button located on the back of the unit. Once it has been reset and working, retry the firmware upgrade using an ethernet connection or making sure the wireless connection signal is very strong. Update us with your progress and we will go from there.

Good Luck
