Charge the unit overnight with a high capacity usb charger, 2A or higher. If the probably persists, you have either a batter issue (Amazon sells battery kits) or your car charging system is defective. Your device is not getting enough charge to stay on.

More than most do.
Make sure you have the latest nuvi "Firmware"
then update the maps. I would start with making sure you have the latest WebUpdater on your computer before you proceed with any updates.

If a nuvi 200 is has an older version of system software glitches may occur. The device may be missing letters or have jumbled letters or displaying duplicate letters or strange symbols on the address screen. To correct this you will need to update the system software of your nuvi. You can easily do this by using Garmin’s WebUpdater program:

  1. Click the following link to download the WebUpdater program: http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
  2. Follow the on screen prompts from the website
  3. Choose RUN/OPEN
  4. Follow the on screen prompts
After the program has been installed it should run automatically. If it does not please use the steps below.
To run WebUpdater:
  1. From the Start menu, click All Programs and find the Garmin folder
  2. Click WebUpdater
  3. Connect your nuvi to an available USB port on your computer
  4. To search for an available update, choose NEXT
  5. As the program automatically finds updates, choose NEXT to load the update. Once the update is complete, you can search for other updates such as voice languages, Bluetooth, and Traffic Receiver.
  6. Disconnect the unit to ensure it powers on.
Take your unit outdoors and keep it in a stationary position with an open sky view until it reacquires satellites.

When charging the Nuvi 1250 in the car, does a green light mean it's charging? If so, is it safe to assume when the light is out it's fully charged? If so, we just charged ours for 4 hrs. but the battery...

We still haven't resolved this problem. After charging the unit for approx. 4 hours, we could at least turn it on and it stayed on but the battery status still only had one bar.BUT not for long. Now it's back to the original problem which is: when the unit is turned on, it only stays on for about 5 secs. and goes off. I tried calling the mfg. yesterday and was on hold for 1:30 min. and figured they're just not going to answer. Now I know why they want customers do it on-line; we have to pay for the answer, which I think is ridiculous after purchasing their product.

My garmin nuvi 1350 powers down while travelling i have to hold power button on to power back on

ALL GPS require charging via the AC charger or USB supplied, If you have not done this then the battery will lose power quickly when connected to 12v car outlet. This source is a maintenance charge, not the main charger. Therefore it will deplete and try to shut down, despite being connected. Holding the power button on to force it is a dangerous driving practice and will eventually damage the unit( not so bad as getting you and any passengers damaged by this practice)

Charge your unit fully before you use it, if that is daily then disconnect it and put it on the AC or USB to raise the charging level to full so it's ready to go for the next day.

If it fails to charge fully, then your actions have damaged the battery and it will need to be replaced.

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

Unit comes "on" for approx. 30 sec, then turns "off". battery indicates approx. 25%

If the unit has been on the charger for several hours and you still only get a reading of 25%, the battery must be replaced. Please see this link:

Can you try the direct to outlet charger? If you dont have one can you try a different charger? If that does not work then that means that the unit might be defective. Contact Garmin at 1-800-800-1020

Garamin Nuvi 350...blanked out and won't turn back on.

Try the computer USB adapter. After it's been connected for about 20 seconds then try powering on the Nuvi. Even if your unit's battery is dead the USB connection should hold power on the unit so that the computer recognizes it as a Mass Storage Device (Windows). If that doesn't work then use the wall adapter and leave it plugged in for an hour or so. At that point if the unit fails to power on then push the reset button in the back under the antena and hold it in for 10 seconds while the cord is connected to the wall. This will clear any software related issues that would stop it from powering up - any other result indicates most likely a hardware failure. At least rule out your plugs.
