Most flashlights have a switch. If not maybe you have to unscrew the head until the light goes out. Hope this helped.

Tips for a great answer:
LED flashlights (depending on the manufacture) are not cracked up to what they say they are. The problem with these LED flashlights is that they don't draw enough/much current through the flashlight itself to close the circuit when turned on. So, what happens a lot of times, they become intermittent. Sometimes you have to play with the on/off button to get it to turn on or unloosen the battery end cap or the LED end cap and retighten. Sometimes you have to remove the batteries themselves from the holder and reinstall. Or sometime just spinning the batteries in the holder will fix it till next time. LED flashlight with spring contacts inside work a little better because it's applying pressure to the contact inside the flashlight providing batter connections.

In the early days of flashlights, the battery life was very short. So if you needed to use a flashlight, you would turn in on only for a second and then shut it off. Hence, the term flash-light.
