How can I get this engine to keep running?

pull the carby and have it services as the diaphragm has gone hard and not working properly
you may have to replace the filter on the end of the fuel line in the tank as they will go hard if left with out fuel for a period of time.

Todd engine for Lawn Tractor not getting fuel. bought a carb kit now what

kit should have included new needle and seat along with gaskets and possible welch plugs. Depends on kit purchased. Just need to remove and rebuild carb. They are very simple to rebuild, but need to clean all existing jets and everything else accessible first. Hopefully instructions were included, if not, will need to know model # to get info on how to rebuild carb.

Engine is not getting gas, starts up after primed then quits. dirty carb or pluged gas filter?

Most likely you have a dirty carb. Try spraying carb cleaner directly into the carb, you will see a couple of holes in the bottom of it - spray there..

I have an antique stihl weedeater that will not stay running I've cleaned the carb.,the carb sceens and replaced the primer bulb I'm not 100% sure about the scew settings.

You probably know that it may need a rebuild kit with the new gaskets and diaphragms in it. It is quite possible a kit exists for it even though it is antique. Is it a Walbro or a Zama? I will send you to a tutorial by Zama on tuning a 2 stroke carb which includes your mixture screw settings. If you need help finding a rebuild kit or just a gasket w/diaphragms kit, please post back. I will be glad to assist.

Engine rebuild and running fine. After a jet kit and carb rebuild engine will not idle. Carbs have been taken apart and gone through several times by several different shops engine has great acceleration...

Seems that the crank/timing settings needs a closerr look than to feel that the carb is faulty. The engine is becoming rougher because the firing angle is changed. I also doubt that the carb /jet kit be replaced back with the original as the new jet is not matching.
Now start the engine and set up idle to more than minimum so that the vehicle does not stall but is somewhat smooth. Now try to advance/****** the timing and notice if the engine becomes smoother irrespective of the TDC settings. If so set to the best level and bring down the Idle , do not reduce off air but check the mixture at the exhaust to have this done all over.
Somewhere in the new change a point has been missed..

Lawn Mower Doesn't Stay Running

Try this, while the motor is running rev it up as high as it will go if possible with air cleaner off then cover the carb hole with your hand, this will stall the mower be patient and do this over and over 5 times this should pull out any debree blocking the gas flow if this doesn't rectify the problem remove the float bowl if equiped and clean the bowls chamber replace , if it is the type of carb without float bowl remove the tank and carb disassemble clean reassemble and start/run.

Poulan 6.75 Lawn mower will not start

Remove spark plug, clean and dry. Replace plug. Remove air filter. Spray WD-40 into carb opening; one second blast. Turn over engine, (pull handle). Engine should start briefly and run for 3 seconds.  If not, you are not getting spark to spark plug. If engine starts, you have a dirty carb and you can buy a rebuild kit from manufacture.

Tecumseh ohv130 engine wont start. It has spark, fuel, clean air filter, good battery,I have checked the valve clearance and set them to .004'', the plug sparks, the flywheel key is not sheared, the carb is...

Replace the carburetor. It is not fixable, even though you can buy a rebuild kit for it. Been there, done that-- had to learn the hard way. What?? I said to myself. I've been fixing these small engines (shade tree) for years, and we always could rebuild the carb and adjust for peak performance. I absolutely refused to believe that my "rebuild" didn't "fix" this carb. Hard to believe, but true. Replace the carburetor. This is your "something new" you've learned for today.

Leaky carb

Here's the deal. The only way gas can be leaking out the carb is because of a float problem. Only six things can create the problem.
  • Gas is getting into the float and is stopping it from actually floating.
  • The rebuiler forgot to put the float needle back into the carb.
  • the rebuilder bent the float level adjustment tang far enough out of range that the needle valve can't close.
  • Many floats have a needle retainer clip that actually holds the needle loosely to the adjusting tang. If the clip was lost the needle can jam at an angle and not be able to close.
  • The rebuilder left out the float mounting pin or the pin is bent or not installed correctly. The float must be loose on the pin once the assembly is in place.
  • The rebuilder left out the float mechanism entirely. This is not very likely.
It might be possible that the mainjet or mainjet 'O' ring was left out and that might cause the problem. I have never seen this before but I just want to cover all, ( even remote ), possibilities.

You paid for the rebuild so I would take the carb back to the rebuilder. You might want to call a Honda dealer's parts department and ask if the parts diagram for the carb shows a float needle retainer clip. Also ask the cost of a " carb kit " Now. if the rebuilder says there is no clip on that carb, you can argue the point.

I wish I could be there with you. Get your money back for the "rebuild" ( less the cost of the carb kit ), and have the dealership fix it. I really want to know what you find out on this problem. Please post a comment on the results.

Please rate this answer after the problem is found. Thanks Chris.
