Installed Napoleon IR3 gas insert. Worked find the first 10-12 time on. Now on start-up it makes a VERY loud noise (kind of like a train). After about 10 minutes, the noise just stops. Any ideas?

Yes, it sounds like you have a gas pressure problem. You will need a manometer or a water inch Gage might work. Check the inlet pressure and compare it to the ratings on your fp nameplate. If it is low on the inlet side when it's making this noise you either have a restriction in your gas line, usually water from a leak, or your regulator from the gas company is not set properly. In the lattercase call them and inform them of your trouble.

Why is my reset switch popping after 10 minutes when I try to to start the pellets.

I would suggest contacting Napoleon directly at 1(800) 461-5581 and ask for a registered Napoleon service dealer in your area. You can also go to this website http://www.napoleonfireplaces.com/find-a-store/ and ask them if they have a service technician if you are in the United States. Pellet stoves are extremely temperamental and can be a real bear to try and diagnose. Honestly, leave the diagnosing and troubleshooting to guys that have meters and gauges to properly diagnose the issue. I hope this helps.

Its to hot

Are the flames more than a couple of inches high? Do they have a lot of yellow coloring to them? Please be sure that the orifice for the fireplace is converted to the proper gas type. A common mistake is to have a natural gas orifice in a LP fireplace. The flames are way too high and the heat is very intense and this creates a very unsafe fire hazard situation. You may want to have a qualified technician come out and examine the fireplace for you.

Napoleon Fireplace won't fire

I would suggest calling Napoleon at 1-(800) 461-5581 and find an AUTHORIZED SERVICING DEALER in your area to diagnose the problem. You can also go to www.napoleon.com, put in your zip code, and it will pull up who is and isn't an authorized dealer in your area.
The company I work for has been in the fireplace business for over 35 years. Napoleon is one of the brands that we have access to. The BGD36CFG is not a simple unit to diagnose. If you can not find a servicing dealer in your area I would call a licensed HVAC but always default to calling Napoleon first. There is no telling why the fireplace will not ignite. Below is the

Napoleon Fireplace propane Pilot won't light main burner even though gas flows in?

  • I'm going to assume your fireplace has a pilot light.
  • Follow the little holes in the burner that lead to the pilot light.
  • Make sure the pilot flame is pointing directly at the closest burner hole. (adjust if necessary).
  • Often, you will need to sprinkle a layer of "glowing embers" in this area. The embers will help the gas travel to the pilot light and ignite.
  • Always start your propane appliance on "High" never "Low". Cold propane likes to drop to the bottom of the firebox and accumulate until it reaches the pilot (this is called delayed ignition). Keeping it on "high" will help the fuel travel over to the pilot without buildup.

an open fireplace is not going to heat your house only 5 feet in front of the fire place. 75% of the heat goes out your chimney and burns the wood very fast. sorry to say but if you are looking for heat you installed the wrong unit!

I can't seem to get my Napoleon gas fireplace to work. I have the pilot light lit, but it won't turn on from there when I use the remote. I have put new batteries in everything. Any ideas?

hello. Remove the batteries from the remote and from the signal receiving box located somewhere near the front of the firebox. Clean all of the contacts in both devices and the contacts on both ends of the batteries with the eraser on the end of a common pencil. Be sure all of the batteries are fresh and charged then reinstall them and you should be up and running. Regards,Joe. ps. please rate my answer. thanks.
