Where to start in troubleshooting?

Hello, my microwave has died out of warranty, only used for 3 months, and was heating a small bowl of pasta when it quit. It is completely dead. Where should I start in troubleshooting it? I haven't worked on a mocrowave before, but I have fixed SMPS and other line voltage electronics. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd like to add that the main fuse was blown when I removed the cover.

I replaced the main fuse and it started working again, tried it with a bowl of soup. Is it likely the fuse blew due to poor airflow around the microwave?

There should be a fuse some where in the works. Mine quit and I replaced a fuse and is ok now.

I replaced the main fuse and it works again, still curious as ot the cause of the fuses demise, though.

Sometimes mating the bowl to the base does not depress the indented safety start button at the front of the base. This can happen more often if you pre-assemble the bowl and lid before mating to the base. Sometimes also the plunger rod in the bowl (that pushes the indented safety button) gets fouled with debris and does not slide nicely up and down. You may have to clean that area.
Test the safety button .... take the bowl off and take a small screwdriver to depress the button while activating the start lever. BE CAREFUL ... since the center drive cylinder will spin. If the motor turns on and drive cylinder rotates then the problem is how the bowl was mated to the base. If the motor does not turn on ... then it could be the motor/wiring/switch.

Microwave taking much longer to heat food

The microwaves are produced by what is known as a KLYSTRON TUBE. Like anything, early failure is possible. There is also the possibility that the transformer or electronic circuit providing the correct voltage to the KLYSTRON has failed, either from over-use, manufacturing defect, or leakage from the KLYSTRON enclosure, which creates heat.
With microwaves being as CHEAP as they are, replacement should not be an issue.

Sharp microwave losing cooking power

If the supply voltage is low it will take long time to heat foods. The second reason is the Magnetron. Since it is in the warranty period you can call at the sharp authorised service center. They will do it free of coast.

No heat

COINCIDENCE? Yes... :) So go buy another one, it'd probably be cheaper than getting the bad one repaired.
