Question about IBM Computers & Internet
I seem to be looked out of my own bios,Power-On Password present can not exactly recall the HardDisk Password. Error that I am getting are 0271 and 0176. Do not know how to reach to correct. IBM ThinkPad R51 type 1831. So far I have disconnected the BIOS Battery----and tried to turn it on still does not boot. I do not know where the J1 jumper is located on the Motherboard,or the Dip switch on this laptop. I have been looking for a User Manual about the motherboard. Juan Hunt
You mite cold boot, when the system turned off and nothing is running wait about 10 seconds, than push F10 when you are booting up.
if you want a copy of the bois manual for your motherboard than type the following information
the board############### bios manual
the code error do this
www.ask.com/error 0271 [check the date & time in bois]
/error 0176 [ there isnt one in my tech book]

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I found a source with a similar model. the exact one not available as the board was a custom OEM version. Try this link;

Do you have another computer you can use? You should be able to boot from a floppy or USB drive to flash the Bios. Also, take out the battery and reset it, start it holding down the delete button (or esc) and watch for prompts.
Reply if you get nowhere with this. How long have you had it? Can you still return it to get a new one?

Hi, this is'nt a solution but more of a suggestion, if your sure there isn't a hardware fault (voltage regulator?) then perhaps a bios flash may be needed. I've come across Asus mobo which have incorrectly reported temperatures and this has been fixed by flashing.
Best of luck
