there could be something wrong with the foot pedal, it may need to be serviced or replaced, or there could be something wrong with the plug where the foot pedal plugs into

How do I fix the speed of stitching? When I press on the foot feed I get almost no speed from it.

unless it has been progressively getting slower, I did have a simular issue. My pedal was getting "stuck" at the 1/2 mark. (wasn't pressing all the way down). Drove me nuts. Took the machine apart, cleaned oiled, cleaned again blah blah blah...when the pedal was the last option took it apart and found a nut from a screw had gotten inside the pedal and stopping it from pressed down. There could be a burr, a nick or something it is catching on.

My Needle just stitch in one place

check in the manual and see where the feed dog lever is a check to see if it's in the up position for sewing or in the down position for darning, if it's in the up position, then the machine needs to be checked to see if there is something wrong with the feeddogs or the feed dog lever..

My Viking 500 suddenly stopped running. The machine comes on and will sew and then won't start. Stitches are fine. The computer shows something wrong with the foot. The symbol for the buttonho

The foot pedal has nothing to do with this. You machine is telling you that you have the wrong presser foot on the machine for what you are trying to do.

Do you have your manual? Mine tells me what foot goes with which stitch.

Why straight stitch will not work but zigzag and herringbone stitches work on my machine.

it sounds like the machine needs to be checked at a sewing
machine shop to see what's wrong with the cam's or gear
that makes the stitches

What setting do i use for working with silk on a brother xr52 don't have manual

You can download the manual for your machine from the Brother site, link is
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/files/dlf/doch000061/xr52c65txl64526562ug01enesfr.pdf

There are lots of weights of silk fabric but I'll assume you are working with something soft and silky like a silk charmeusse or silk georgette.

You need to stitch seams with a straight stitch and use a new sharp needle size 70 or even 60. Change the needle every 4-6 sewing hours or if you hear squeaking or popping; throw away the blunt one.

Use a quality polyester thread like Guttermann, Mettler, or Metryosene. Start with stitch length on 2.5 and stitch width zero (straight stitch). The normal metal presser foot is probably best for this. If the fabric is see through you may wish to do french seams to encase the raw edges. This is where you sew wrong sides together, then turn and stitch right sides together, if you have never done this instructions are here http://sewing.about.com/od/techniques/ss/frenchseam.htm.

Also pay carefull attention to your bobbin winding, my tip for this is here
http://www.fixya.com/support/r10598580-winding_bobbin_correctly
as winding the bobbin smoothly and evenly is essential to quality stitched seams.

Always press every seam as you sew, dry iron, silk setting. Press each side of the seam, then press the seam allowances open, this sets the stitches into the fabric.

If you find that the seam is pulling up you can try loosing off the top tension by a half number (turn it down to loosen) and shorten up the stitch length a fraction to 2.2 or so. But you don't want it too small as if you need to "unsew" ie unpick, you'll never see the thread.

Use a lighweight interfacing if the pattern requires it; I'd use a fusible but very lightweight such as Pellon Featherweight.

Happy sewing.

Foot pedal and thread guide

Same thing happened to my CE-200. It would only stitch one stitch at a time or else it would run full speed. My husband made an adjustment through a small hole on the back of the pedal and it now works much better. The adjustment hole apparently allows you to set the sensitivity of the electronics inside the pedal. He turned it slightly toward the + direction. It took a couple of small adjustments to get it to work nearly normal again.
