Polarity reverse problem in icom 706 mkiig

Quite a few things can go wrong in this situation. There is an internal fuse that can blow, but the first problem will be a rather large diode that is directly across the DC power input. Reverse polarity will cause this to short, and it usually stays shorted. It will need to be replaced. Then, you should look for open traces from the +12V line to the fuse holder, and the collector of the HF output transistor. If you do not see close to ZERO ohms when your leads are attached, then you have a trace blown off the board.

Depending on how long you left the reversed power on, and if you replaced the inline fuses with a larger value, repair cost can run you from $2 to several hundred, just for the parts! I would take it to someone that knows how to work on this radio. It is not an easy radio to work on.

Open close button doesn't work

not sure what it is but cd / dvd drives usualy run on a motor wich turns a cog wich moves the tray in or out depending on the polarity if i was going to attempt a hope repair the first thing i would do is test that motor do not attempt a repair without basic knolage of electrical systems a wireing diagram is a must if its a valuble item if it is a pc type device pcs run of a few difrent powers around 3v 6v and 12v i would expect 6 or 12v most likely 12v but thats where a diagram comes in usefull

motor basics increase the current the motor will turn faster and harder decrease for the reverse

polarity put positive on positive and negitive on negitive it turns say clockwize reverse that polarity swap the wires over reverses the current motor turns the other way

a motor is built to run at up to a certen rpm at a max tempriture of xxxx put too much power in u decrease its life for sure extreamly low power can be bad too

ok u know how a motor is tested i would have the device unpluged and test that motor id look on the motor to see what current it says it runs on if it says at all if u got no idea start lower 3v then if nothing 6v nothing 12v if u get to 12v and still nothing on eather polarity its proberbly fryed it will hopefully have a part number on it
its actualy far more likely that a bit of plastic has broke but when your inside there looking at the motor ull see all the plastic cog / rail system im sure ull get thare again it looks expencive so concider taking it to a pro

What is the polarity of a 12v Black & Decker Drill?

centre pin on plug socket is usually positive...
think I would **** it and see ....if the replacement charger has a charge light it will probably not light if you have reversed polarity. Had the same problem with VHF portables ...I just cut the wire on new charger and tried both options ..reconnected and a bit of tape...voila.
There is little danger to your drill from getting it wrong as long as a the timing is relatively short.

What voltage is needed to power the Scan Do Pro II? Everyone I've found on the Internet works on AC power. We have two units we can't find the DC wall transformers for. We need to know what voltage...

I have a ScanDo 1273, pretty similar. It takes 12v DC, positive center. It took me some testing to figure this out... From what I saw inside it, it looks like anything 12v or less isn't going to break anything and it has diodes to protect for reverse polarity.

I got a new power adaptor for my DP01 but didn't realize it was a 12V 4A AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN A 2.5a.Something fried and it wont power up. On th PCB board looks like a diode flashing orange off an on....

I would say it can... strange though that the new supply would harm it. As long as the voltage is correct having a bigger supply should not be an issue. Something to check, is the plug that plugs into the unit the orrect polarity. diffent manufactures make the center pin (+) others make it (-). Most Engineers (being one myself) try and make any connection the end user can normally get to protected against these types of problems.

using a power supply rated for more current in itself should not cause a problem because the device determines how much current it needs.... make sure of the polarity and also that it is a 12V DC supply you are using.

I have an Icom VHF that was hooked up reverse polarity on 12v.

They likely replaced just about every diode and possibly the main circuit board. The tech should be willing to tell you exactly what work was done, and many return the replaced parts.

Lost power supply

It usually wont hurt if the polarity is not right. Most electronic device have a diode to protect it from reverse polarity. Make sure that it needs 12V. If you put higher voltage than what it needs that is what will damage it.

Power window problems

Repair procedure: REAR POWER WINDOW MOTOR INSPECTION 1. Remove the rear door trim panel. (Refer to BD group-Rear door) 2. Disconnect the 2P connector from the motor.f07bc65.gif 3. Connect the motor terminals directly to battery voltage (12V) and check that the motor operates smoothly. Next, reverse the polarity and check that the motor operates smoothly in the reverse direction. If the operation is abnormal, replace the motor.
