Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool Duet Dryer that I purchased in 2006. It runs fine but during the day when it is not running, it makes some sizzling, zapping noises that sound like they are coming out of the control panel up top. It might last for 3-4 seconds. This is now happening randomly throughout the day. Any thoughts on what this might be. Again, this happens when the dryer is not running.

Testimonial: "Thanks Mark for the input I was kind of wondering about that myself. I looked at the cost of a new board and figured it would have been good to go ahead and replace it - however - I threw some wet towels in it to dry them and after they were finished I went to the garage and turned off the breaker for the dryer. I go back into the laundry room to push on just to make sure I turned off the correct breaker. Right before I pressed the button, I heard the static like buzzing for about 2 seconds. I hit the on and it was definitely off. But since I was standing there this time I recognized exactly where the sound was coming from. There was an electric dog collar sitting up on top of the dryer that has been there for a couple of weeks. Turns out my wife never noticed it as she was telling me about this problem. Turns out the dryer is fine! Thanks for the help!"

Whirlpool Duet dryer time skips mins.

clean the stainless steel sensor pads located just inside the dryer door with isopropyl alcohol, these sensors register moisture in the garments and adjust drying times accordingly, when you use dryer fabric softener sheets it coats these sensors and throws the system off, make sure to shut off power to unit as this alcohol is very flammable, then leave door open to air out before re-powering up unit

Whirlpool Duet Dryer not heating

FIRST YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR BREAKERS MAKE SURE BOTH ARE ON. YOU NEED 110V TO RUN THE MOTOR BUT 220V TO HEAT.IF THAT IS FINE IT MAY BE A SENSOR OR A ELEMENT.

Whirlpool Imperial Electric Dryer wont heat up

Check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses. An electric dryer uses two circuit breakers or fuses, and if only one of two is tripped or blown, the dryer might still run but not heat. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Heating element
A burned out heating element will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Replace the element if found defective.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.
