Question about John Deere Garden

1 Answer

I have a John Deere LA 115 hydrostatic transmission that's going on 8 years old. When I crank it there is a noise that almost sounds like something is loose under deck. When I press clutch, it stops. What do I need to do to get rid of the noise?

Check drive path for the idler pulleys. One is a flat and the other is V type. The bearing go dry on lube and require replacement,

Is there a grease fitting where you are describing?

  • Eugene Rounds Mar 31, 2015

No just sealed bearings. Although you can sometimes use a needle grease injector to lube them it don't always works as usually the balls and race ways are already damage and can sieze at anytime.

SOURCE: gas tamk removal john deere 115

I had the same thing happen. I got the tank out, but it wasn't easy. Take out the bolts out that hold the rear end on. Take off the two springs that support the seat. Take out the battery and the battery tray. Take out the 6 bolts that hold the black cowling and the front of the green platform to the frame. This will allow you to lift the seat platform far enough off the rear end to allow the tank to be pulled out through the side. You also have to remove the metal bracket which holds the front of the tank and has caused the tank to leak in the first place. New tank is $56.00 not installed. I used a soldering gun and melted the plastic back together. I think it will hold quit a while. I know this is a little sketchy, but It worked for me.

Looked up detailed isometric diagram w/ parts denoted on John Deere website. FixYa website was a litele misleading. I did not realize that accessing a question posted "for free" would cost me something to get the answer. It's kind of like askin a neighbor as a neighbor to give you a hand and then he sends a bill.
Thanks but no thanks

You have a fluid overheat condition here, so something is wrong inside the transmission that is causing this.

Have a 2 year old 115 with new blades, the blade heights do not match in the center of the mower deck. Is there an adjustment so theymatch

No, not unless somebody has changed the bearing unit out and it has a different depth to it. The washer on the top? Maybe. I have 2 john deeres out there and I know they are not adj, but I would check the spindles for washers or whatever somebody might have done to it. How far is it off?

John deere transmission what other mowers interchange

You will have to first know what kind of transmission you have. You will have to consider if it is manual or hydrostatic drive. The transmission model number should be stamped usually on the top of the transmission. Yes transmissions are interchangeable, for example some John Deere, Craftsmans and Husqvarna all use the same transmission. Peerless is a manufacturer of these, the only one I know of. So don't let anyone tell you that you can ONLY use a John Deere product. To determine what transmission you can cross over with, get the model and serial number off of your John Deere's transmission. Call a small engine repair shop and ask them what all transmissions it will cross over with. Let them know you are aware that Peerless manufactures the same transmissions for most all riding mowers and that they will interchange. If they are uncoperative, contact me with the model and serial numbers off of your transmission and I will cross reference it for you. But try to get model and serial numbers for other brands from them, then check these against used ones. You will need to tell them if it is a hydrostatic transmission or manual and if so what speed manual.
