SOURCE: propane coversion of kenmore 790 gas range

Most gas stoves are shipped for natural gas .You need to check the orifice on each burner to see if they are for natural gas or propane. If you ordered propane the stove should have been shipped with the orifices. They may be in a bag with your stove documents.

SOURCE: oven produces soot when running, broiler ok, stove top ok

Al, you need to seat the needle valve on the bake. Remove the bottom drawer, right below the bake burner you will see the nut just below the air shutter adjustment. Turn this nut clockwise a few times, it might seem hard but just do it. Then try the bake again, you should have a nice bluel flame. Tenbears.

SOURCE: Oven flame too high.

Take a 1/2 inch open end wrench and tighten the orifice on the oven gas valve. Then adjust the air shutter on the venturi tube.

Our new home has a GE XL44 gas stove the top works fine but when I use the oven it smokes and sets off the smoke alarms. The stove is over 3 years old Any ideas before I have to call the repairman in?

A gas stove shouldn't smoke. Is is clean? There is some grease that has eluded your cleaning efforts of interior surface?

Here are some tips that may help you resolve this problem:

Check the broiler flame. If the broiler flame is not adjusted properly, you could be creating soot from the burner flame.

Position the items that your are broiling lower so that they do not splatter grease up onto the broiler baffle.

Use a broiler pan that will drain grease and drippings down below the top surface.

Broiling many items will naturally produce some smoke. If you have the oven door closed when broiling then the only place that the smoke can go is up and out of the oven vent. If you partially open the oven door, some of the smoke will come out of the door opening.

You may have residue on the top walls of the inner oven cavity. Do you have self-clean feature on your range to clean the oven? Follow all of the procedures in your owner's manual to properly clean the oven using the self-clean cycle. This may clear out any undetected residue that could be causing excessive smoke during broiling.

How do I fix broiler that does not burn hot enough to broil. Oven works o.k. Broiler worked last week but now flame is not strong enough.

Make & model? You are talking about flames so I assume it is a gas unit. I would examine the broiler burner, sounds like a problem there.

I have a Kenmore gas range that doesn't light right away when I put the broiler on. I can smell the gas going to the pilot but it takes too long for the flame to light. Sometimes if I cancel the broil...

It seems to me that it is a bad thermocouple. It costs about $5. It senses the pilot flame and then tells the gas to turn on full. BUT if it uses an electric igniter that in itself is the gauge to tell the gas valve to turn on full. And that could be about $30 or more.
I am only slightly confused because you say gas range, but the broiler function is in the oven. So that is what I am believing what you are describing in your problem

Kenmore electric range - oven temp low and takes forever to heat

if lower element tests open with continuity meter then it for sure is bad. i would also check the wire ends that connect to the element and/or the control board, they could have loosened allowing a bad connection and low voltage to elementor burnt off.. most ovens do not use the broil element at all during the bake cycle, only during the broil cycle.. some however do utilize the broil element during baking, but at a lower wattage or something..
best of luck,

Gas broiler won't light

jumptrout51 is correct with the the round ignitor. Using a clamp on digital ampmeter, you should see the amperage use go from zero to at least 2.5 amps after you turn on the broil, then gas valve should open. (the flat ignitors actually require at least a 3.2 amp minimum) Very unlikely the electronic control has anything to do with your problem. Low voltage is not real likely if the oven ignitor is working. Most likely you have a bad ignitor or a poor electrical connection.

Kenmore range broiler burns orange not blue and leake gas

The only real important thing is blue flame with a orange tip,
also ranges have different nozzles for Natural Gas (NG) or propane(LPG)

he can check for leaks with soapy water at the flex line connection

GE Electric Stove Broiler doesn't stay on

If the door is closed the broil element will cycle off an on normally. It should stay on most of the time if the door is in the broil position (partially open). If your range has an electronic control it will probably also have a hi and low broil setting. On low broil it will cycle off an on even with the door open but more with the door closed
