Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I am getting an FH Error Code. The water fills fine but I think it is overfilling because the water level reaches about half way up the door and triggers the FH error. I start the drain and spin cycle and the water drains fine. What is my problem?

Washer fills with water and overflows:

The water pressure level switch is a pressure activated switch that is used to determine the correct water level in the tub. This part is normally located behind the control panel and will have a hose or air dome tube that connects it to the tub. On washers that use an electronic control, this switch may be located at the sump area below the tub. As the water fills in the tub it will compress the air in the tube and push against a diaphragm inside the switch. The switch will control the water inlet valve and turn the valve off at the correct water level. If the tube has a leak, not enough pressure may be created to activate the switch and the washer may overfill. If the switch is defective it may also cause the machine to overfill. To determine if the switch is bad, you should first eliminate the air dome hose as a problem. Look for signs of cracks or worn areas on the hose. Remove the hose and submerge in water. Seal one end and blow air into the other end and look for bubbles. Check for an obstruction in the hose as well. If the air dome hose appears to be ok, then the water level switch may be defective.

You can test it with a meter and with a manual test? ( first locate it in the panel, it has a plastic clear tube hose going into it, remove that tube from its connection, now put another small tube or hose into the slot where it was and have the machine set to wash cycle with water in it. Blow into the other end of the tube.
If the machine starts to wash. the pressure switch is more than likely good
( No wash- then THE DIAPHRAGM IS BAD AND SWITCH HAS TO BE REPLACED).

The other item to check would be your water inlet valve. Check it for continuity with a multi meter it should show Ohms or a closed circuit. To test it when water is overflowing unplug the unit and see if it still overflows or continues to fill. If it stops when unplugged. Then it is not a water inlet problem but an electrical signal problem going to ur water inlet valve. Possibly from the panel or board.

My Whirlpool Duet washer is making a loud squealing noise when filling with cold water, or it reduces the cold water to a trickle, which sometimes causes the washer to throw an FH code. It does not h

Hi. Got some info about the FH error from Whirlool service manual.

F/H

No water detected entering machine or Pressure switch trip not detected.

If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine and then valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed.

In my experience the CCU is the problem (control board).

IF the machine has water! If not, check water valve, hose, water tap.

Do it overfill? If thats the case, the pressure switch is gone, its hose has a leak.

Hope this helps you

Kenmore Elite HE4t was flashing F/H and now it wont function at all. I have clothes I can't get out of the washer. Can you help with this?

An FH error is displayed when either no water is detected entering the machine or... water has entered the machine and the water level pressure switch did not trip when water level was reached.

Causes are clogged inlet water screens in the inlet of the water valve. Turn off the water, remove the hoses, use a thin knife blade on the outside of the screens and pull them from the inlet of the water valve. Wash them under slow running water by rubbing them with your fingers on both sides of the screens. Re-install them, reconnect the hoses and turn on the water.

There is a flow meter in-line of the tub fill hose from the inlet water valve to the tub that senses water flow that can cause this error.
Flow meter: (picture)

As far as the water level control pressure switch.. there is a thin 1/4 inch rubber tube that runs from the pressure switch to the tub. If that tube gets clogged or a hole in it the pressure switch fails to function normally. The remedy here is to remove the hose and clear any obstuctions withthe wash tub EMPTY. If the hose is removed while there is water in the machine it can overfill or not sense the proper water level.

Try draining the water from the machine if there is water in it by lowering the drain hose to the floor and catching the water for disposal. Then unplug the machine for 10 minutes and plug it back in. See if you can then open the door by pressing cancel / end cycle . If not respond here and I will help you get the door open.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

FH SIGNAL MEANS ......... WHAT IS THE USE OF FH SIGNAL........ AND APPLICATIONS

The error code FH means no water is detected entering the machine which can be due to a faulty flow meter not registering the correct amount of water that has passed through it or the pressure is not tripping from the empty position to the full position when the correct water level has been reached. Your machine is definitely made by Whirlpool like other Kenmore and Maytag washing machine so they are basically the same and troubleshooting is then the same. The link below contains the detailed troubleshooting of this error code for a Whirlpool Duet and should be applicable to your machine.

Error code FH on my AWM, what does it mean?

Hi,

"FH" is a No Water Detect error. It is an indication that you either have no water coming into the washer, or very little water at all. Check whether the water taps are turned on sufficiently, the inlet hoses are not kinked, the water inlet valve is not clogged, you don't have a siphoning issue, and/or the drain pump is working.

Thank you !!

What does it mean when the washing machine stops and blinks the letters fh?

The fault code "FH" means basicly a water inlet flow problem. Make sure you check that you have enough pressure and the machine is filling to the correct level

Have the water flow meter checked or replaced. If the internal wheel sticks inside the meter, the CCU will think no water is entering the washer and give you this error code.

Do you notice an above normal amount of water in the washer when you notice the error code? This is a good indication the flow meter is faulty. You can obtain the part from Sears and install it yourself. Very easy fix

Error code fh the and the machine would not drain

I know you said you had done all this, bhut these are the commentsstraight from CD manual.

Kenmore Elite 2 front loading washing machine. About every 2 minutes the cycle stops and flashes an "f" then an "h" on the display over and over again. **

That error code can be the result of no water detected entering machine after 30 seconds or pressure switch (water level control) activation not detected after 8 minutes of filling.

If there is no water in the machine at the time, make sure that both water taps are turned on, check for kinked fill hoses or plugged sediment screens in them and verify the water fill valve operation. You can read about the water valves used on appliances at the following link:

LINK > http://www.appliance411.com/links/jump.cgi?ID=801

If there is water in the unit, verify drain pump and water pressure switch are operating properly, the pressure switch hose is in good condition and properly connected to the pressure switch. Also, make sure the water is not siphoning out of the machine prematurely due to an improperly installed drain hose (see the following link).

LINK > http://www.appliance411.com/links/jump.cgi?ID=534

That error might also be caused by too much suds in the wash water like can result from using non-HE detergents.

Leaks water from bottom of door. Error code E7 ?

I found this and it also may have to do with the door seals...how old is the unit...if door seals get old and stiff..(not soft and pliable) they sometimes leak...after usage the heat and moisture may cause them to swell and or become soft thereby sealing better...but this is what I found in the user manual.

Machine displays "E7" on LX30 model or "CLEAN PROBE" on LX40 model.
1. Clean water sensors inside tank.
It suggests contacting Hobart if this fails but I also found this problem is associated with fill issues...as in an E4 error...this what you do in that case....

Machine won't fill or won't fill high enough(LX18, LX30 display shows "E0," "E2," "E3," or "E4")

1.Low water pressure — check for clogged hose strainer; check that site water pressure meets minimum flow pressures.
2.Make sure probes are clean.
3.No water pressure — main water supply valves may not be working.
4.Drain valve open - turn machine off to drain machine, then on. Repeat twice (this assists in clearing any drain valve obstructions). Wait for machine to reach READY mode and press WASH. Slowly open door several seconds later and note water level. Close door; 30 seconds later, open door slowly and check that water level is the same as it was. If not, repeat the
OFF-ON procedure.
5. Delime machine.

Good Luck and I hope this helps...let me know if it doesn't and i am sure I can get to the bottom of it...thanks for rating my effort...the Fang.
