Value of a 100+ year old Singer Treadle sewing machine

Singer made hundreds of thousands of sewing machines over approximately 150 years, so unless yours is a rare or special "design" model (ie Red Eye), it is probably worth what someone is willing to pay. Unfortunately, most older machines are sought for collectability, not for their actual sewing use. Machines improved over the years and most sewists would prefer machines with added conveniences, ie zig-zag stitch, decorative stitches, needle threaders, presser feet & accessories. Frequently, the accessories that came with the older machines are large and not as refined for doing intricate work.

If you like the machine, then perhaps you should keep it to use for your own projects.

I just want to know the year and the value. It was my mothers and I believe she got it sometime in the late 40's/early 50's.

Usually you can plug in the serial number along with the type and come up with some answers. The EBAY is a good starting place to find out what your machine is worth.

What year was Bernina 1008 in production?

The pdf brochure on their website http://www.bernina.com.au/product_detail-n2-i18-sEN.html
says this is the last mechanical machine in their range and has been offered for decades.

So you might need to do some detective work with the serial number on the machine plate, sometimes you can deduce the year of manufacture from the serial no as they'll incorporate the manufacture year into the number.

I have an Elna 1010. I have not used it for several years. When I turned it on and pressed the foot petal all the way down, it sounded like something was going to happen, but nothing did. I am in the...

If you have not used it for several years and now not getting any drive action, then it is possible one of the gears inside it has failed, broken or siezed up. This would be inside the free arm or near the motor probably.

I would suggest that you take it to a sewing machine repair shop and get it serviced, all machine manufacturer's recommend a service every 1-2 years to lube internally, clean out and address any issues. Just the same as getting the car serviced.

My local shop charges $80 for a service/clean plus any parts to be replaced, well worth the money in my humble opinion.

Hello I have an old sewing machine and would like to know what its worth it was my moms about 50 years ago its a kenmore 117-552 Serial n is 376239/ tHANKS

Hi. Unfortunately, sewing machines were manufactured by the millions and those from 50 years ago are still going strong and readily available. The value of any sewing machine is determined by how much someone is willing to pay for it. There are some older machines that collectors will pay good money for, if the machine is in excellent shape and has all the attachments. To get an idea of what people are willing to pay for your machine, check the listings in Ebay. There is a vintage kenmore group on yahoo groups that you can check also.

Hope this helps,

Robbie
