Question about HP Computers & Internet

Problems with tape drives HP7980A (HP-IB). They are stopping with message "missloading". May be some trouble in controller in the host?

I have read info about HP3000 and HP7980 tape drive. We have working system HP3000, ser.70 and some ser. 52 in Moscow, Russia in INION RUN (Institute and Library of social sciences). It was a big fire in our library (30 jan/2015). A lot of inform is in the INTERNET, national tragedy... We have lost a few millions of books, but I saved HP3000 and after total drying (it was a lot of water) HP3000 and disc drives are working now? but I have problems with tape drives HP7980A (HP-IB). All of them now in autoloading are stopping with message "missloading". I cannot understand why? I cleaned everything, tapes are new. May be some trouble in controller in the host? But it seems to me during autoload proc. there is no connecting and handshaking between Tape drive and Host, it is only autoloading, local proc. (?) - Help me, please, if it possible... I never seen this failure in all tape drives, reel moves and after obtaining BOT jump forward, but doesn't jump back to BOT and failed... :( Victor Gusev gusev-2000@yandex.ru

Water is a great damaging factor for tape drives. I know you can disassemble the drive (almost) complete and clean everything you can see. Not only should all moving parts and rollers guiders be cleaned, but also the logic boards and the cables and connectors. You are not allowed to remove any of the rolling parts, because you wont be able to readjust them without calibration tools. Then it should be reassembled after cleaning. Also use a cleaning tape several times, to remove all residue of the cleaning fluid. There is special cleaning fluid for things with water damage, but the heads and guiding system can be cleaned with clean alcohol (no spiritus)

For what it is worth, I found an old manual of the drive. Because it does not have a normal URL I put the link in the text here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/information_storage/software/ltt/2-wd11.pdf

Don't use any of the storage tapes, you have your data on, because you could damage the tapes. In the end, perhaps you have to buy another tape drive, to restore your data so save the tapes, till you are 100% sure the drive won't eat the tapes.

Hi when you start the pc and goes to the scsi utilities and scans for device its not finding the device attached to it sioit gives you this message you can see if the terminator connect to the device is properly connected and its in its place ,also press CTRL+A to get into the adapter setting and in the scsi utilities section scan the devices if it finds it then check the id of the device how much its set to it should not be the same of the scsi card id .by default scsi card id is 7 but be sure.

I am getting a DRV PREV REMOVAL TYPE (46) message on display, every time I try and Inventory a tape or run Lable Media.

I have two of these Quantum SuperLoader 3 (with LTO3 drives) and one does keep giving me the same hassle. I haven't figured out how to fix this, but I've gotten past the error: disconnect the autoloader from the host computer (i.e. or stop rsm, mtx, or whatever controlling sofware you use), reboot the autoloader, get the tape out of the drive (e.g. move command from the autoloader's console or web interface), insert a cleaning tape (a few times), reconnect everything (i.e. start back up your controlling service).

No Compatible media found in HP Tape Drive

Try a brand new tape fresh out the wrapper.

If that doesnt work make sure you are using the right drive in your backup software!

It sounds like a message often seen in windows backup where you have selected the wrong tape drive from the list and it just tells you "No compatible media found" when actually the drive listed isnt even connected to your system still
