Maybe if you remove it from your devices and try re-booting and see if the the computer will recognize it as a new device and install it.

Problem with ASUS P5QC Motherboard, cannot detect any usb device (hard discs). The lights on the devices show that there is power, but Windows 7 cannot 'see' them. Keyboard, mouse and usb stic

If same usb port work with other devices then suggest to check the disk management first then device manager. If it is not listed in disk management or you are not able to access it then open device manger and check under disk drives. If it is not listed in device manger then I suggest to test the external harddisk on another PC. If that also fails then you either have a bad hard disk.

Hard disk is detected and shows up in device manager and safely remove hardware. but wont open

First if it gives any error like drive is damaged or corrupted try to connect your drive on upper version of windows(like you have widows xp try to connect it on windows vist or windows 7) If the drive open in them first save your data from each of the drives and format them and again place your data in them it will work now.Or if it still not work Try to format it or create new partition of it through Right click my computer go to manage then go to disk management select your drives and format them.

When i boot up my laptop i get a blue screen it will show in safe mode but it will not boot. any suggestions? thanks billy

Sounds like a driver or application problem. You need to boot into safe mode and remove any un needed software applications and then restart.
If that doesnt work you may need to either restore your computer to an earlier time or repair windows. You can do both of those using your windows disk.

External Harddrive doesnt show up in harddrive management.

it sounds like a hardrive issue. You can have the data retrieved from your hard drive by using this online company that I highly recommend:

Western Digital External HDD not appearing in My Computer

It could be that the OS is not assigning a drive letter to your removable drive. To do this, go to disk management and assign one.

Assuming OS is Win 2000/XP/Vista

Right-click My Computer then Manage
Click on Disk Management
Right-click the removable drive and click on Change Drive Letter
Assign a drive letter and click OK
Your drive should now show up on My Computer

Hope this helps.

External drive not showing up

Have you gone into disk management?

If it is vista, right click on my computer, and manage, disk management.

Check and see if the disk shows up there. If so, you will probably need to format it.

Vista has it's own format, and does not like the usual XP disk. I just went through this.

Laptop dvd drive wont recognise.

Sounds like a bad cdrom drive. If it isnt even being picked up in the bios (cmos), then it'll never show in windows. If reseating the drive doesn't work, just replace it with a known good one. Unless there is damage to the plug inside, that should solve it.

External hard drive

Try these steps: - Right-click on "My Computer" - Click "Manage" - Click on the "Disk Management" icon in the left column (Under the "Storage" category" - If your disk appears on the right-hand side, then try to right-click on it and create a partition. The issue may just be that, since the disk is not partitioned/formatted, a drive letter has not been assigned, which would cause it to not show up in the "My Computer" list Good luck!
