Question about Samsung Cell Phones
Terry, have you read the original post? It clearly says 'disappeared from both screen bottom bar AND from application'. Therefore the guy just not able to create shortcut from nowhere.
I'd suggest to nan-restore if you have a backup. If you don't then try:
-- make sure you're connected to Google and you have a backup account overt there with an option 'sync contacts' turned on.
-- back up your data
-- do a hard reset with formatting data/factory reset and wiping Dalvik and data cache
If that doesn't help re-flash your device with the last official ROM

Samsung Galaxy S2: Phone/Contact Icons missing from screen desktop and App Drawer:
Hello.. just in case you don't know what the App Drawer is:
it is the box with all the dots at the bottom right side of your Galaxy S2:
so.. there are 2 solutions to this issue..
1. which is the most common problem.. even if you factory reset the phone, they are still invisible to you.. what is happening is that they are in fact on the phone but they are playing hide and go seek.. because you accidentally did something to cause this or for whatever reason it just happened (we going to say this because we don't like being blamed).. :)
to UNHIDE these, tap the App Drawer,
then on the S2 right next to the HOME button, (that Big button at bottom middle to go to the screen home page), there's a menu key button on left side of it..
After tapping the Menu Key:
select Show Hidden Applications
then select the apps you want to unhide

2. If your apps are not hidden,
most likely they were accidentally disabled.
Go to Settings>Applications>Disabled or Turned Off>select the apps and re-enable them
