Terry, have you read the original post? It clearly says 'disappeared from both screen bottom bar AND from application'. Therefore the guy just not able to create shortcut from nowhere.
I'd suggest to nan-restore if you have a backup. If you don't then try:
-- make sure you're connected to Google and you have a backup account overt there with an option 'sync contacts' turned on.
-- back up your data
-- do a hard reset with formatting data/factory reset and wiping Dalvik and data cache
If that doesn't help re-flash your device with the last official ROM

    As mentioned, reset didn't work.
This has been mentioned too on stuff I have read about this problem online.
I'm not tech enough to know what nan-restore is sorry.

Oops! Sorry then for DIY insights - I didn't intend to harass you in any way. The best way for you then is to have your gadget serviced by techies - I am not sure how did you perform a factory reset not knowing about data/Dalvik cache..

  • Vladimir Frolov Mar 30, 2015

For me it's obvious enough that cache memory is corrupted and is to be re-initialized.

Samsung Galaxy S2: Phone/Contact Icons missing from screen desktop and App Drawer:

Hello.. just in case you don't know what the App Drawer is:
it is the box with all the dots at the bottom right side of your Galaxy S2:
Samsung S2, Contacts & Phone icons have vanished f - samsung-s2-contacts-phone-icons-kyzl0pi20tqzz121bvlihxv0-3-0_0.jpg so.. there are 2 solutions to this issue..

1. which is the most common problem.. even if you factory reset the phone, they are still invisible to you.. what is happening is that they are in fact on the phone but they are playing hide and go seek.. because you accidentally did something to cause this or for whatever reason it just happened (we going to say this because we don't like being blamed).. :)

to UNHIDE these, tap the App Drawer,
then on the S2 right next to the HOME button, (that Big button at bottom middle to go to the screen home page), there's a menu key button on left side of it..

After tapping the Menu Key:
select Show Hidden Applications
then select the apps you want to unhide
How To Hide Apps On The Samsung Galaxy S3

2. If your apps are not hidden,
most likely they were accidentally disabled.

Go to Settings>Applications>Disabled or Turned Off>select the apps and re-enable them

How do I delete muliple contacts from my whats App?

All you have to do is... close whatsapp!! Go to your phones main contact list, press & hold on the contact name you want removed.. (This will bring up check boxes or highlight the contact name) Now you can just select any other contact names you want removed!! When finished look for the delete icon and press it.. (Depending on what phone u have, it might be on top or bottom part of the screen or it may simply just say "delete")

Hope it works :)

You may have Malicious software on the phone, run a scan using your phone's software if available. If this started after you added an APP or APP's uninstall them.

How do I uninstall apps on my Samsung Galaxy phone?

Samsung Galaxy s2: Uninstalling Apps that came with the phone (no computer):

Hello. Not every app will be able to uninstall if it comes with the phone. If you are not using them, they aren't doing anything to your phone except taking up a small amount of space. Remember, if an app is uninstallable that came with the phone, you will not be able to get it back, even if you factory reset the phone.

If you are sure you want to try and uninstall or disable apps on your phone.. this is the procedure:

Settings > Application Manager > (slide the screen all the way to the right) ALL > (tap on the app(s) you want to uninstall or disable (next to Force Stop button there's either an Uninstall button or there's a Disable button

To remove the ones that are not uninstallable, you will have to ROOT your phone. Note if you ROOT your device and you mess up on the instructions, you can potentially mess up your phone making it unusable. Also, if you ROOT your device, you will not be able to get any kind of servicing help from the manufacturer. (this is for advanced users). Once you ROOT the phone, you will have administrator rights over all files on the device, if you accidentally uninstall an application that you think you do not use, but the phone needs to have, you can mess up your phone. Think about this need to uninstall these apps before deciding that it is a must do. This may be more trouble then it is worth. Why not just DISABLE them instead. Remember: Should you want to sell your phone.. if you uninstall an app that came with the phone, you can not get it back even if you Factory Reset the device.. It will be gone forever.

A lot of people are obsessed with disabling and removing apps when it is not necessary.

How do I down load photo's from my Samsung 2 phone please

First make sure you have the correct USB drivers for your phone installed on your pc. Go to device manager and see if your phone or mass storage device is listed. If not, download the drivers here, http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads. Make sure debugging on your phone is enabled. Please refer to the following:

  1. To set the Samsung Galaxy S2 to USB Mass Storage (MSC) mode, go into "Settings > Applications > Development" and enable "USB debugging".

  2. Then drag the status bar down and tap on "USB connected".

  3. The "USB connected" screen with the large green Android icon will appear. Tap on "Connect USB storage".

A confirmation dialog box will appear. Tap "OK". The green Android icon will turn orange, indicating that the phone is now in USB Mass Storage mode and should now appear as USB disk drives in "Devices with Removable Storage" and be assigned drive letters.

Lets start this by clarifying something, you dont have a virus on your Galaxy. Regardless of what you've been led to believe, as of now there are no virus', that exist on the Android or iOS platforms.
You may have an app that is relaying information without your permission, but when installed, you did grant it permissions.

Try to hold the icons on start menu for 3 seconds, 2 options should pop up on the top of the screen, one is uninstall and the other is remove. While still holding the icon slide it on top of the uninstall option.
