Question about Dyson DC35 Handheld Vacuum

Open Question

My Dyson DC 35, stick vacuum stalls. I've thoroughly cleaned it, but it still CUTS OUT AFTER a few seconds. I've called Dyson & was advised to replace the adaptor; its being shipped.

After a good cleaning, it doesn't turn on at all. The adaptor has a solid green light when plugged in, but the vac has a slow flashing green light.

SOURCE: Dyson DC 14 animal bagless--unable to use wand


Try these tests & tell me the results.

Remove the hose & wand completely from the machine it unclips at the bottom of the back.

Leave handle in full upright position & switch on do you still get the sound of something blocked ?

If yes remove the (U) shaped inspection port again at bottom back of machine now repeat last test what happens ?

Have you tried calling Dyson? I had a problem with my Animal, and their tech department talked me though the fix. Worth trying them first.

The brush will only spin when the machine is reclined. Not when the machine is stood upright.
If the brush doesn't turn when the machine is reclined, and the brush control set to "auto", you have a brush bar and/or belt problem.

I have a fully charged battery, however the power light indicator is off. I've checked for blockages, but can't get the upright to operate.

Loss of suction and sounds like motor is juddering after a few seconds use

A pulsating sound from the motor, along with a loss of pick-up performance, will be due to a blockage somewhere in the machine - in the cleaner head, in the wand, or in the bin inlet. For help checking for this and removing any obstructions, please take a look at our online Support guide:

Motor cuts out after 5 mins on dyson vacuum

Hi Peter,

I'm sorry to hear about this. From what you've described, it sounds as if your machine may be overheating due to a blockage - the filter may also need a wash.

To locate and remove any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

In normal use, the filter needs to be washed at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for it to dry somewhere warm before replacing it in the machine.

The extension tube (wand?) sticks and is very difficult to remove from the body of the vacuum. I have taken it off a few times, cleaned it, even sprayed WD40 down the plastic tubing, but it still keeps...

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC18. From what you've described, it sounds as though the hose may be twisted when you replace the wand on the cleaner after use. Checking that the hose is straight before you replace the wand should prevent this from happening. My DC 16 will only run for a second each trigger pull. The battery is fully charged, it has plenty of suction, just wont run for more than a second. I cleaned the filters.

I had the same problem with my Dyson DC16, where it only runs for a few seconds at a time with each trigger pull. My husband called Dyson (Canada) and without hassle they shipped us a replacement part which I just received this morning. The replacement part sent to us is: DC16 Main Body with Rating Plate. It is also under warranty for 1 year. The great customer service makes up for the flaw in the machine. Also, Dyson is aware of the problem. Hope this helps.
