Question about Jenn-Air Refrigerators
I have figured out the damper is not working properly. The temperature in the fresh food compartment is less than control setting yet the damper was still open and allowing cold air to enter the compartment. The only way to close the damper was to manually hold the damper door up. The knob on the side of the box does rotates on its own power when the door is held up to provide clearance. Now the question is how do I figure out which of the many possible parts (e.g, the control harness, the damper control assembly etc) is causing the problem. I really don't want to go through a process of elimination since I don't have the time or money. Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks Edit: The damper is working for opening the door when the frig temp exceed the 38 degree setting but doesn't close when the compartment set temperature is reached but continues remain open and let cold air in indefinitely.

Check the cold control thermostat with a meter for both OHMS and volts ( VOLTS is a live test with fridge plugged in so be careful) It must show 110 volts. An open or thermostat that reads infinity will not allow the proper cooling and defrosting cycles to operate and may in fact stop anything from happening as if there is no power to the unit?
ALSO CHECK THE AIR FLOW VENT SYSTEM

Engwah, is this the correct model number or does it start with PSS. The light should do just the opposite, off when the door is closed and on when the door is open. This could be part of the non cool problem. If this model has the mother board wich controls the refrigerator it is very possible that the defective fan motor has damaged the motherboard. This is very common in GE refrigerators. The technician will have to run some tests on the board to eliminate it...Catriver..post back.

i would take the back freezer panel off and see what kind of frost pattern your coils have.they may be frosted over and the begining of a defrost problem.

Find the return air It can't come in if it can't get out. also if you were checking it with the freezer door open you will not feel the air. Just in case i have done that myself. if all air ducts are open and it's getting o I should be 20 in fresh food with the control on 9.

Tips for a great answer:
Good Morning friend, thanks for your post!
From what you have described your Frigidaire refrigerator is too cold and freezing food. I would recommend you check the temperature to make sure it is set to a factory setting of 0 for the freezer and 37 for the fresh food side. You can also check to make sure that there is not food in the freezer blocking the damper from closing. The damper is located near the top of your refrigerator.
Place you hand in the rear of your fresh food compartment to feel if the air is too cold or the damper periodically closes. This could be the cause of your refrigerator freezing your food. If you damper is not working properly you may need to replace it. If your damper appears to be in working order your thermostat or control panel could be the issue. I would suggest having a professional out to perform a diagnosis. If you do not have a professional contact you should visit your manufacturer's website to locate a technician in your area. Good luck. -Matt

Depending on who made your Kenmore will help determine what
the problem is most likely. Many times the thermostat can be the blame but with
different brands some making auto dampers that have their own thermostat to
regulate fresh food temperatures by controlling the amount of cold air coming
from the freezer to fresh food section. Some models have an auto damper while
others have an electric controlled damper that is controlled by an additional
electronic sensor. The first three numbers of your model number found most
times around the fresh food compartment door is where to find your model
number, number should look like this example 321.2134567 Click Here=> Kenmore Who Made it for Them?
Get the full number and I will be glad to help you, Thanks Sea Breeze

It is quite common for a refrigerator to begin the first signs of a defrost problems once he fresh Food section begins to warm. Auto Dampers are an additional component to check while searching for the true reason for Fresh Food compartment warming. First look inside the freezer compartment and and see if there is a layer of frost building on the rear wall. If yes you will need to manually defrost unless you have anothr place to store the freezer goods. Unplug refrigerator and then remove the rear panel of freezer to get a good look at the snow covering your evaporator coils. Defrost with a hair drier. Now we need to look for the cause Auto Damper, Click here for the photo location of these parts=> MSD2756GEW Controls Section the adaptive defrost control is most likely the problem and is listed in the photo as location 13 and the auto damper
The Auto Damper model refrigerator has two controls and both have capillary sensing.
The Auto Damper controls the fresh food temperature and the Freezer Temperature
Control guides the freezer temperature. The fresh food compartment temperature is maintained by a damper assembly located at the back of the temperature control housing. Changes in air temperature cause the damper door to open and close. A control rod and gear connect the fresh
food control knob to the damper control.
Turning the fresh food control knob to the coldest position increases the flow of freezer air into the fresh food section. The freezer compartment temperature control warms at a faster rate and cools at a slower rate, increasing the compressor run time necessary to maintain a satisfied freezer temperature control.

There is always other possiilities but I see two other things that may cause this and that is the defrost heater with defrost Thermostat=> 61006199 Defrost Heater Assembly
I know this was long and possibly confusing but please ask if you should have questions or one on one assistance, Thanks, Sea Breeze
