Hey, try just to boot from restoration disk! If you didn't create one, kudos on you: boot from the system (original system distributive) disk, choose option 'repair'. Sometimes it helps.

Yes you can if you know some PC concepts. So if you had and spare PC or your friend you can plug your crash HDD in other PC, and from there you can choose the files you need. Keep in mind that at least 32GB stick can do the job. Another way is to bring your crash HDD to a PC repair shop they had a toll to look into your HDD.
This can :

  • Use your 2.5" / 3.5" IDE hard drive or SATA hard disk as an additional external hard drive
  • Connect your SATA / IDE device to your computer through a USB port.
  • Compliant with USB 1.1 and 2.0 standards
  • Hot-Swappable: Plug and Play without Rebooting
  • Compatible Windows PC or Mac with Available USB /2.0/1.1 Port

or buy the tool at eBAy http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DQJME7Y/?tag=hotoge-20

Based on everything your saying I would replace the memory modules and verify the fans on the CPU and Graphics processor are working properly. Typically you get this problem when a ship overheats, a memory module is going out or the power supply is fluctuating.

Try to format the drive from your computer, instead of just erasing it. Also, memory cards do go bad too.....some times quite easily.

The good news is they are VERY inexpensive now of days if you do need to replace it.

My available physical memory reduced from280 to 160

Hi,
it would most likely be that one of the ram sticks (if u have 2 256mb sticks) has gone bonkers. try each stick seperately and see if the PC is stable. if so, u will be able to identify the faulty stick.

Trying to log on to Dimension 2400, but won't come on power is going thru. AB light in back is yellow

Okay, That helps,
What did you do to the computer *prior* to this issue?
You need to look at a few things. Remove all memory sticks except one.
Try to boot. If it does work, then you have a bad memory stick.
Add another stick and so on.
if you have a Video card in a slot, remove card and relocate to another slot (IF RAM does not fix).
Make sure CPU is fully seated as well.
Can you boot to safe mode using F8 ?
lets get the first 2 things done first tho.
Thanks for the fast reply!!!

Motherboard

Sounds like you tried everything except reseating any other hardware that may or may not be placed in another socket such as PCI, AGP, etc... Like a Modem, Network adapter, Sound/Graphics card, Wireless card, etc... This is probably a wasted post as if you knew to check each stick of memory seperatly then you've probably already reseated all socketed hardware. Though, you could remove all non essential hardware such as I mentioned above and try installing Windows again?
Good luck and keep us posted.

My computer crashes now and then... Tends to happen alot when im playing a pc game? It makes this loud screeching noise when it freezes i am forced to shutdown manually

Your Memory card is the problem.

Try this steps:

1. Remove added memory
If you've recently added or tried to add additional memory to the computer and have started getting these beeps. Remove all new memory you've added to the computer. If the computer works fine after removing the new memory you're encountering either an incompatibility or defective new memory.

2. Open computer and reseat memory
Sometimes when the computer is moved and/or over time a memory stick can become loose causing the computer to be unable to read the memory or get errors as it's reading it. Try fixing this issue by opening the computer removing each of the memory sticks you have in the computer and then placing them back into the computer.

3. Swap memory location
If reseating the memory did not resolve the issue try swapping the location of the memory. If you have only one stick of memory in the computer try moving it to another slot and then boot the computer. If you have more than one stick of memory try removing all but one stick of memory and boot the computer. If this does not resolve the issue try removing that stick of memory and try one of the other sticks of memory.

4.Try another computers memory
If you have access to another computer that uses the same type of memory try using its known good memory in your computer. If another computers memory works you know that you have bad memory. If another computers memory does not work and it is compatible with your computer unfortunately your motherboard and/or the slots on the motherboard are defective causing it to be unable to properly read the memory, which means the motherboard will have to be replaced.

Hi,
One or both of your RAMs have developed a fault. Change both RAM. After changing RAM pl format again and than try. Do not insert those faulty RAM again. Get your RAM tested by a software which is available on Microsoft site for free.
