How to clean a clogged belt sander

I assume you mean you want to clean the belt itself? You can use a rubber stick made for this. It looks and smells like a giant pencil eraser, about 1 inch square and about 10 inches long. However, if the belt is clogged with melted paint, that won't do much - but a stiff wire brush works OK. If the wire brush doesn't work, get a new belt. You can avoid the melted paint buildup (or at least reduce it) if you keep the sander moving rapidly over the surface, and use a good quality scraper to remove as much paint as possible before sanding.
Good luck!

The sanding belt on my Makita 9403 keeps breaking at the glued joint after only 5 minutes of use. Have fitted a new graphite pad, but this has not resolved the problem. Am using genuine Makita sanding...

Hi,

They will do that if you install the belt in the wrong direction...

Check the arrows on the inside of the belt and make sure you are turning the belt in the right direction...

Otherwise check a different brand of belt...some of them out there are ****....

1/4 palm Sander is not "collecting" dust even with a new sanding bag, what could be the problem?

Are you using the punch plate to put holes in the sand paper after you put on a new sheet?
If you are it could have an obstruction in the fan guide or the fan has broken fins. Both the punch plate and fan can be purchased by clicking on the below link.

Belt will not tighten small round spring come loose do not no where it goes

Usually there is a knob with a screw imbedded with a spring around it that screws in and adjusts the "tracking" of the belt so it doesn't run off the side of the rollers. If you lose that screw, then teh belt will come off quickly.

At this site, look at part # 68, 69, and 70

My 5 inch random orbital Sander: the self stick sanding disk will not stay on it. Can you tell me the trick to making them stay on sander? Thank you!

If your disks have a "furry" bottom you have to have something like velco stuck on the base of the sander. The velco is slf sticking and you get it at the hardware store. Good luck.

Putting Sanding paper on makita sander

A makita power planer is just what it says, a planer. It has blades that spin at high speed and remove a thin layer of wood with each pass. The orbital sanding sheets go on another tool called an orbital sander. Write back if you find the sander and can not figure out how the sheets go on it.
