That really depends on how often you use your pressure cooker and what kind of foods you cook in it. You might start to notice steam escaping between the lid and the pan after a while. You can try stretching the rubber and making sure it's sealed properly and cleaning the valve etc. If after you've done all that it still is leaking steam, it's a sign you probably need a new rubber gasket.
