Why is my 2009 chevy aveo overheating?

I replaced the bottom radiator hose because there was a tear, but still overheated, then the top radiator hose came off and got a new clasp to put on but still overheats. I already added anti freeze 50/50

    If radiator fan is coming on ,is radiator getting hot or just the engine, if just the engine then your thermostat is probably sticking

    the a/c doesnt turn on until about 30 min after the car is on...so that could be the problem?

If all the air is off inside the coolant you might a blow head gasket compression leak in the cooland chamber the more you drive more pressure in there and the weakest thing will break one after the other i would start to change the thermostat you said the fan start the air that the fan blow is it warm if its cold you dont have a good circulation so bad thermostat if its warm look like a head gasket job

Is the radiator fan coming on ? If not vehicle will overheat

    the radiator fan does turn on ... but about 10 min after driving it , it overheats

Connie, Were the radiator,water pump and thermostat replaced to try and fix the over heat issue or as maintenance. Engine overheating can be caused by a lot of things, Leak in cooling system, air in system, bad rad. cap, slipping belt, faulty thermostat or installed upside down, faulty water pump, plugged radiator (inside/outside), collapsing rad hose, faulty cooling fan, leaking head gasket, sludge plugging engine water passages, poorly tuned engine, etc..
Take into a good shop for diagnoses and estimate for repair. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

Not cooling,has new impeller and thermostate


Steve, there's many causes of overheating. You say you have a new water pump and thermostat, so it's obviously not those at fault.

Just a question ... you say your car is not cooling, but is it actually overheating? A faulty temperature sender unit (it screws into the engine block, usually..) can give an incorrect reading on your gauge.

If it is overheating - steam/you can feel the excess heat - is your radiator fan kicking in? Is your car overheating as soon as you drive it? Or overheating when stuck in traffic .. and the fan isn't kicking in..?

Other things that cause overheating which spring to mind include a blocked radiator and/or a collapsed radiator hose.

Hot coolant enters your radiator via the TOP hose and cools as it goes down the radiator, then back into the engine via the bottom hose. Check both top and bottom hose after the engine has warmed - sometimes a hose can become 'flat' and blocked.

Another thing that causes overheating is a burnt head gasket/cylinder head problem.

Switch the engine on and look at your coolant bottle - a continuous 'bubbling' indicates that exhaust gases are finding their way (via a burnt head gasket) into the cooling system.

Any oil in the coolant bottle also indicates cylinder head problems. Also check the oil dipstick. If coolant (because of a defective head gasket/head) has found its way into the oil system the oil on your dipstick may appear a creamy/greyish sludge.

My VW POLO 1.6 clasic keeps overheating I have removed the thermostat no improvement I have replaced the thermostat top rad pipe hot bottom rad hose cold water not circulation replaced radiator still no...


Have you changed the water pump - if not, that could be it. Typically cold lower hoses imply water pump impeller not turning.
That would definitely be my next move.

1998 Chevy Lumina 3.1 overheating - top radiator hose collapses on throttle, then opens up when you let off.


With the engine cold remove the radiator cap. Start the engine. Watch the coolant. If you see bubbles constantly perkulating out of the coolant than you most likely have a head gasket that has failed. If you don't see a constant perkulation of air bubbles it probably wouldn't hurt to replace the upper hose and see if the problem is resolved.

2006 CHEVY COBALT OVERHEATING HAS NEW RADIATOR WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT


That is normal, it will not get hot without the thermostat. The water cools in the radiator and falls to the bottom and the bottom hose is cold. This is what cools the engine and stops it from overheating.

Check for power to the fan and for a good ground. If those are both present then you would need a fan. If your old fan rubbed a hole in your radiator then I would definately check to see if the fan has play in it that would case it to hit the radiator.

Check that your electric radiator fan is working. When the car is hot and idling it should come on.

Replace your therostat. I had a Chevy Citation that the thermostat would start to open and then close instead of opening all the way.
