This is what I found for my US Amazon account. If you're in a different country, the steps may vary. The bottom line is this - You need to contact Amazon to request cancellation/closure of your account. They do not appear to have a self-service method of closing an account. I was given three options; to contact them by their internal email, by telephone call back (may not be available outside the US) or chat.
