that was not helpful,,,,,,, I fix phones and laptops every day the same way, a remote is a toy, if it does not work after trying my method, there was more in that glass than water and so far the only thing that is a permanent dead issue is "Cat Urin" if it has been urinated on by a cat, don't bother, it is junk no matter what it was

It depends in part on the water since tap water can vary a great in deal conductivity.
If you want to risk opening the housing, remove the batteries and use distilled (not bottled mineral) water and rinse the remote with it.
Shake it out and place in a warm area to help speed the drying of it; don't put batteries back in it until you are certain it has dried.

Years ago, a custom disk drive from a word processor had received a bladder full of cat u rine and it was restored as described above and worked fine for years after..

How to take apart canon pixma 432. Spilled soda in it, need to clean inside.

Hi Daniel,
Let me say, up front, that I am not a printer guru. My background is in biomedical electronics, but this procedure works in most applications. Take distilled water and pour a small amount into the area where the soda was spilled. Wait a few minutes to allow the water to dissolve the dried soda. Then pour in more distilled water to flush out the residual soda. Allow to dry. The water should rinse out the soda, and when it dries it will leave no contaminates of its own. This procedure works well on medical devices such as telemetry transmitters and cell phones that have been spilled on. I hope this helps. Thanks for asking Fixya. Dan

My remote got wet and doesn't work

Buy a new one, or if you can open it, you could try to clean the printed circuit board and the rubber part, where the buttons are on. If it was normal water, drying it and cleaning both sides, with a dry cloth, even if everything is already dry, should be enough. If something like sugar was in it (spilled some soda drink) please first try you get of the sugar, with clean water from everything. (When it is open) and dry it carefully, Check all contacts are clean and nothing is on it. The black parts under the buttons, should stay on there, because the resistance is needed to make the contact on the circuit board.
Perhaps you can find how to open your remote, on ifixit dot com.

I have a universal remote. The power comes on, but I can't get it to work. It used to work until I spilled water on it. I know... Red flag. :) buuut I cleaned it up fast and like I said power still co

Since your remote is responding, you may want to check if it is producing an IR signal. To do this, take a picture of the remote when someone else presses a button. (Have the other person point the remote at the camera lens. With a digital camera (cell phone or other camera), if the remote is producing an IR signal, the resulting picture will show a flare of light.) Taking pictures of several different button presses may indicate which functions are compromised. You can try resetting the codes for the different devices the remote controls.

Unfortunately, you may need to replace your remote with a new one. I've never had much luck cleaning the contacts after they were damaged.

In the future, if you spill water on the remote, first remove the batteries. Then dry the bulk of the water off of the unit. To finish drying the water from the contacts inside, fill a bowl or other container large enough to hold the remote with some uncooked rice. Place your remote (with the battery compartment open) into the rice and leave it there; then cover the bowl. You can rotate the remote in the rice at intervals but leave it in the rice for several days. (The drying process can take a week.) Do not replace the batteries until the remote is completely dry.

Alternatively, get one of the cell phone drying bags and use that to dry the remote. It will still take several days to get all of the moisture out of the unit.

I hope this helps.

(If you aren't in a hurry, sometimes letting the wet gadget dry in the open air for several weeks will work. Trying to rush the drying process doesn't work as well.)

Water got into my Xbox 360 by the fan can I fix it

Let it dry out give it a day or two before plugging it in put it in front of a fan or heater to dry out good. Was the Xbox plugged in when it got the water on it? Once its dryed out you can try plugging it in.If it doesn't power up you probably fried the power supply. But if it was like a glass of water got spilled and some splashed near fan it probably will work. I think there are even some fuses in side the Xbox but you should leave that to a professional. If it doesn't come on once its dryed out

My daughters's calculator got wet when something spilled in her book bag. We took out the batteries and let it dry out. Later we put in new batteries and it works but is extremely slow and I have to press...

If water was spilled in it, the batteries should have been removed immediately, if you could remove the circuit board from the casing, dry it off and place it under a lamp for a few hours it should have been perfectly fine. If a soft drink, sugar base or other substance was spilled in it; the board would need to be cleaned, a small amount of soap and water can work, use a cotton swab, only clean the affected area of the spill, make sure to rinse all the soap off, dry with towel, then place under a lamp to get all the moisture out. Also make sure you clean the bottom side of the buttons that contact the circuit board. If it doesn't work then you may have to buy another unit.

Milk spilled on tv remote controller

Remove batteries from remote, to avoid further damage caused from liquid on powered circuits.
Allow the remote with the cover opened to dry for few days. Ideally the remote should be disassembled and the internal parts treated with cleaning solution, or 70% isopropyl alcohol and water. If you do not want to disassemble just let it there to dry up.

If the remote does not work after that , it means that the liquid had damaged circuits.

In that case get a replacement remote.

Tv won't turn on manually or with remote.

The water shorted out something in the power supply. If it got into the high voltage section, then probably this circuit has shorted.
