Remove the cover on an emachine e525

Umm, well there are things like the motherboard and plamrest that have screws in them that might be holding it. You just can't remove the bottom cover, You have to start by Removing the bottom screws like you did, but then you have to remove other things before you can get the bottom case off. Also the VGA Port might have screws on both sides of it that keeps the bottom case from coming off.

Below are some steps to follow.

Look inside the battery case, hard drive case, memory case and dvd drive slot for screw. Some screws on the bottom case in inside of some of the device cases might have the icon of a keyboard next to it. Those screws hold the keyboard in place.

Turn the laptop over, remove the strip that is just above the keyboard but be careful because a cable might be attached to it. Then remove the screws that hold the keyboard in place that are under where the strip was and gently lift the keyboard out because there is definitely a cable under it.

Next you can remove the screws from the lcd hinges at the corners and lift the lcd screen off, also note that you will have to pull the antennas cable and the lcd cable when you remove the lcd.

Next start removing any screws that hold the palmrest in place. Take note of any cables that are attached to the palmrest and remove them then lift the palmrest off.

Next start removing any screws you see that hold the motherboard to the bottom case, then lift the motherboard out an start replacing the fan.

A digital camera to take pictures will be most helpful to refresh you memory of where things were.

You cannot remove bottom. You must remove the case. Flip up control panel after removing two screws holding the end caps to the top They are in the rear of the end caps. unplug lid switch and lean the case up and out after removing the two large clips holding the case to the back panel. Now remove the pump clips and the motor clips

How do I open case to replace capacitor?

The SK-19H210S case is held together by the four screws on the back (around the label) and those under the cover of the base hinge/plate... (besides various plastic tabs which can be loosened by prying, after all the screws are removed).
After removing the four screws around the label on the back, the base hinge's plastic covering can also be pried off by pressing in on the bottom of the rounded bulb on either side of the hinge, at spots close to each side of the hinge, and then rolling it upward... as there is a single tab/catch on each side of the bottom, and four tabs across the top of the hinge cover. With the hinge cover removed, there are four screws holding the hinge plate to the TV... and under that plate are two more smaller screws recessed into the case. After all ten screws are removed, you can then pry apart the TV case... taking care along the TV's front bottom where the speaker grill is... as that front grill/bottom is a separate piece tabbed onto the full case front... and the grill contains small plastic 'fingers' which deliver the blue illumination through the grill, when power is on, from an LED inside. The grill does -not- need to be separated from the rest of the front piece, and doing so risks breaking the plastic fingers off, since they extend from the inside into the holes of the grill.
Once the TV's frontpiece is off, four screws hold the screen (with an electronics cage metal-taped onto the back of it)... you can pull the push-button control board up from its resting place to remove one of the screws behind it. Next, being careful of the control wiring, you can rotate the screen over and out, laying it below the TV case back... exposing the electronics cage. Then, noting color/position, proceed to unplug external wires and a ribbon cable...
CAUTION, you canNOT just pull it out from the 'cage' end. It can be detached by flipping up the release (the dark edge where it plugs in) with a fingernail... you canNOT just pull it out, or it will be damaged. The other end, in white plastic with 'horns', can be pulled out of its receptacle. Next, you must carefully peel back the metallic tape at the bottom and side of the cage... then turn it over, being careful of the narrow ribbon cable inside.
There are four screws for each circuit board... you might try to loosen one to remove just the power board, or else remove both boards at the same time... the power receptacle is resting on a small lip and must be tilted in and lifted slightly to clear the lip... besides the ribbon cable, there is another plug holding the two boards together. Also, at the port/connectors, there are two screws amongst the connectors, two screws for the HDMI port, and two hex screws for the VGA port... after removing those, then both boards together may be removed from the cage.
Note the polarity of capacitors before replacing!

Although the instructions don't mention this, you also need to remove two screws on the bottom of the base. Pull the base bottom off. Then remove another screw that holds the base post on.

Can't remove cover to check power supply.

Remove the bottom base according to user manual, clips into the bottom, pinch them together with your finger under the base. Then remove hinge cover in back of panel by popping off the plastic cover with a flathead screwdriver. Then remove the 4 screws holding the metal plate. Under the plate are two screws. remove them and then carefully pop the case open. The 2 screws are the only hard fixed part holding the case together, plastic snaps hold the rest. Also remove the 4 screws in the back of the unit. Remember where everything goes, write itdown, there are several plugin modules you will need to remove when disasembling.

Before you pull apart your laptop, check the male connector and power cord of the adapter, check it with a multimeter and or plug it into another Compaq. You could have a broken wire in the power cord, it could save you a lot of work.

To pull apart the laptop, remove the battery, hard drive and CD drive first.
Then remove all the screws from the bottom of the laptop, plus the screws on the back that holds the LCD's hinge to the laptop base.
Take a note of where the screws come from, some may be shorter that others.
The remove the keyboard (the screws should already been removed from the bottom of the laptop).
Carefully remove the plastic cover next to the base of the LCD screen, This may also cover the hinges, if necessary fold the screen flat to enable you to carefully pry this cover up and off.
The plastic top cover is clip fastened to the bottom of the case, carefully prize apart from one side and gradually work around the other sides.
You can now remove the LCD, there are two connects attached to the motherboard, unclip these.
The motherboard is under the keyboard and plastic top cover, there are screws securing it to the plastic base, remove these and you should be able to free it from the base.
Now you can solder/fix the power connector.
I suggest you use a temperature controlled soldering iron.

Don't use too much force, you might crack the plastic parts.
Best of luck and have fun.
