Try opening up unit and using canned air and blow it out - sometimes simple dirt causes things like this
While inside glance and see if you don't have some old tape or bits of labels that have come off and are anywhere inside that might be hanging the various working areas.
Try using cd cleaning disk and vhs cleaning tape
Without seeing this not sure what is causing it but may be something simple like the dust or pieces of label causing problems or the little rubber "tires" and other rubber components having gotten stretched out and slipping.
