How do I know what to fix?

Started a load it seemed to be sensing and then started making this horrible grinding sound. Removed clothes from washer tub and noticed that the tub is not moving freely seems to be locked. I did the self diagonistic on it and it states that no problems are detected for this unit. please help

my machine has the rotor/stator type drive motor, and a locking/unlocking clutch mechanism, would that still have a bearing? I don't think so. any other suggestions

my husband took off the coupling assembly and the tub turns, put the coupling assembly back on the tub will not turn.

the stator may be bad indeed. Stator Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed. however let me ask u a question u say it will not turn with the coupler back on? can u try to turn the motor drive shaft itself by hand? it may be froze up. try to turn the transmission shaft by hand also see if its froze up>?

Ok my husband turned the shaft from the bottom of the washer and it and the tub turn.

Sounds to me like either a tub bearing has gone out or u have something stuck in between tub and housing, it does happen, a bra wire, pin, nail, bobby pin etc even coins. remove housing and check more closely

SOURCE: Grinding niose from agitator.

If the fill and drain functions correctly, AND the spin cycle works correctly, AND the cycle itself starts and completes correctly, the problem being that the back and forth motion of the agitator starts the loud grinding noise, it will likley be broken gears in the transmission. The single most expensive part in the washing machine.

SOURCE: Washer making noise in spin cycle

Is this unit new? I had a frigidaire that would really get to going on the spin cycle. Got the clothes really dry and sounded like a jet engine if no clothes were in it. Is it a whisling sound or screeching sound...The sound could be coming from the water pump. It may have something in it that is dragging. Some you can take the bottom off of and clean them out..

SOURCE: Grinding sound during agitation cycle on my Maytag Performa

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

SOURCE: Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer Model MAH4000AWW low last spin

two problems here,
your shaft seal is running on its last leg
the sound is unmistakeable and always described the same...
the water issue, you probably have a trickle leak through the cold water valve
the mixing valve is quite an easy repair, but I would have to say with all honesty, it probably time for a new machine
the hub seal is a tub replacment call
2 hrs of labor if hes good
and the tub runs around 500.00 dollars
sory for the bad news

do you hear the motor running ,it will drain but no spin, this has no belt in it it's built just like a whirlpool washer because whirlpool owns maytag now and this washer has a motor coupling,i would check this first,do you know if the agitator is working or do you hear a grinding noise when it's running?watch this video and you don't have to disconnect the wire harness to the motor if you don't want to,i don't just put motor off to right side still connected

Whirlpool Duet Sport not running it makes clicks and it grinds

A common problem with noises from washing machines has been the under wire that may come out of small clothes. In the washer they can get stuck in one of the inner basket holes and make a scrapping noise, they can actually make there way into the pump and jam the pump, or make a terrible noise when the pump is running. Grab a flash light and have a peek inside the washer for this. Front load washers seem very common to this happen! If the tiny cloth is showing signs of fraying, may be best not to wash it in the washing machine, replace the cloth.=======
It's noisy Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.
