It's a lock nut, but you should have no trouble removing it. Just hold the steering wheel, or turn it all the way to one side. Put a socket on the nut below the gear and ratchet it off. That's all there is too it.

SOURCE: gas tamk removal john deere 115

I had the same thing happen. I got the tank out, but it wasn't easy. Take out the bolts out that hold the rear end on. Take off the two springs that support the seat. Take out the battery and the battery tray. Take out the 6 bolts that hold the black cowling and the front of the green platform to the frame. This will allow you to lift the seat platform far enough off the rear end to allow the tank to be pulled out through the side. You also have to remove the metal bracket which holds the front of the tank and has caused the tank to leak in the first place. New tank is $56.00 not installed. I used a soldering gun and melted the plastic back together. I think it will hold quit a while. I know this is a little sketchy, but It worked for me.

SOURCE: John Deere LA175 lawn tractor front wheel bushings

Remove the tire and wheel from the spindle. Take a long punch or similar item and reach in the center of the wheel hub where the spindle goes. Locate the space in between the inner and outer bushing and tap the edge of the old bushing until it comes out. Now go in from the other side and do the same with the other bushing. This one will be a little easier to do since you don't have to hunt for the center space. Put the new bushings back in the same way just be sure you drive them in STRAIGHT

I wouldn't think so. I know you DO need the seat switch depressed in order to start the engine.

John Deere la175 mower the pullies are not turning

Do the shafts spin and not the pulleys? if so you need to replace the shear pins. If nothing works are there belts that drive fron the PTO could be a broken belt.

How to adjust the valves on a la175

that is a lawn mower number, not the engine. But if it's a John Deere LA175 and it has a Briggs single cylinder you need to adjust them to .004 ~ .006. As for how to do it. You need a manual because I am not typing all of that up

Rebuild steering on john deere L120

Hi there, I am not familliar with the L120 specifically, and suggest that you go to: "John Deere Lawn Mower Manuals" online and select your model from there. In my experience with this type of unit there are two ways that the pressed gear on the end of the shaft is fitted.. Real engineers make a ferrule, usually about twice the diameter of the steering shaft, and have either a tapered end with a threadded end for a nut which often has a split pin thru the thread like a trailer wheel bearing, and a key in the shaft and taper. Machines made with a lesser labour input often have a fixed pinion which means replacing both the shaft and the pinion. If it is the tapered end with a nut, they are often very tight and cannot be removed while mounted in the machine. They may require a sharp heat and severe blow with a good hammer. I do not recommend that you do this if you are not competent as the blow to the nut can do much damage if not hit square with a cushion of copper between the hammer and nut. The fact that you do not know how to do this job probably means that it is cost effective to employ a shop which does this type of work.

Replacing Drive Belt on John Deere La175

if the manual says it will slide off then it will but if it doesn't then it is probably rusted on or corroded on. It may be necessary to use a puller or press to achieve the desired result. I suggest you talk to a dealer mechanic to clarify that there is not a shear pin you have to remove first.
