Filter is located in the top right corner of the fresh food section. Clear off top shelf to give yourself working room. Filter is a screw in type but it only needs about a1/4 to 1/2 turn. Counter clockwise (left ) to remove and pull down slightly. Push new one up and turn right to reinstall. You will only get a few drips of water during the change AS LONG AS YOU DON'T PRESS DISPENSER FOR WATER. That all there is to it. Your filter number should be MWF.

Jim we need to check a few things. On back of refrigerator is a panel covering the electronic control board. Then after unplugging the refrigerator take board out to examine both sides. If you find no burn marks we then need to remove the back cover inside the freezer and check the defrost element/heater and defrost thermostat. Let me know what you find. Thanks, Sea breeze

I have GE profile refrigerator with bottom freezer the indicator light to replace the water filter came on I did so but it will not pump out water I held the reset button for 3 seconds still nothing

Double check the filter install you did. Make sure there isn't any clear plastic seal over the center hole of the filter and retry the water. If it worked before the problem has to be in the filter install or the filter is possibly defective and wasn't manufactured properly. The reset button is only for the warning light---has nothing to do with filter or water operation.

No water coming out of the dispenser

Hello there and welcome to fixya
Dispenser Does Not Operate
  • 1 Ensure that the water supply line is installed according to the manufacturer's directions. Turn the water supply shutoff valve counter-clockwise to fully open it.
  • 2 Replace the water filter or remove the filter and install the plug. A clogged filter will prevent the water dispenser from functioning properly.
  • 3 Place a large container under the water dispenser. Press and hold the dispenser lever for at least two minutes to remove air in the water system.
Does Not Dispense Water
  • 1 Inspect the supply line and shutoff valve for clogs. Call a plumber to remove clogs in the line or shutoff valve.
  • 2 Replace the water filter cartridge or remove the filter and install the plug.
  • 3 Ensure that the filter cartridge is installed properly. Remove it and reinstall the filter cartridge. The cartridge will lock into place when installed correctly.

Where is the water filter for the ice maker located on a GE tfx24zr side by side refridgerator located

Filters situated in the interior liner of the refrigerator compartment of GE-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these steps:
  1. Remove the old filter by grasping it and slowly making a one quarter turn to the left.
  2. Pull down gently on the filter to remove it from the mounting bracket assembly. Be careful to not tip the filter, as water may spill out of it.
  3. Discard used filter.
Water by Culligan filter cartridges need to have a water filter adapter installed. This is a one time installment, and once you have this adapter installed, it stays in the refrigerator for all future filter replacements. If your refrigerator already has this adapter in place, do not remove it to replace the filter.
Smart Water filter cartridges do not require the use of the water filter adapter. If for some reason your refrigerator has an adapter in place already, you will have to remove it before installing a Smart Water filter cartridge. The adapter is removed in the same manner as the filter itself: with a gentle quarter turn to the left.
Remove the new filter from its packaging. Apply the appropriate month sticker to the filter to remind yourself to change it again in six months' time.
Fill the filter with water from the tap, and then line the arrow on the filter up with the arrow on the cartridge holder inside your refrigerator.
The filter automatically pulls itself into position as you turn the filter to the right and lock it in place. Be careful to not over tighten the filter into position.
Run water through your dispenser for about three minutes to clear the system. Keep in mind that a newly installed water filter could initially cause water to spurt from the dispenser.
Note: Replacing this type of filter is a quick process - there is no need to unplug your refrigerator when replacing it. Also, this filter should be replaced every six months.
Hope this was helpful to you. Thank you for using fixya.

Replaced my GE double wide refrigerator SMARTWATER FILTER #GWF With a which is supposed to be better. Yet, the water stream has cut down to half. Do I need the adapter collar for this newer model? ...

I have exactly the same problem. Replaced my GWF filter with the "new improved" MWF filter and the same thing happened. Tried replacing the filter not once, but twice - same low water flow. If you install the bypass plug the water flow is normal, so don't bother checking for water restrictions, bad hoses, tanks etc.. My refridgerator is a GE Profile 26 cubic foot purchased in 2004. I'm afraid these MWF filters don't work well in older models.
