There are some Bernina Groups on Yahoo who may be able to provide you with the manual you need. You'll need a Yahoo email account, then search for Bernina groups, and request to be added. Then you can post questions about your machine and how/where to get a manual.
The gear set is the same in both 740 machines providing that the 740 that you want to take gears from is not an older set with (straight miter tooth) bevel gear set. Later model 740 will all be helical. The 740-11 or 740 Industrie (same machine) will have helical teeth and will swap. Hope this helps? SewTechnical Home
I know where one is - I was using my machine a Bernina 850 when the cotton started to tangle I was so frustrated I threw the bobbin case in the canal and that is where it lies today. The canal is between Palmetto Crt and San Michelle Court Broadbeach Waters. It may be a little rusty now but you could always derust it. Good luck with your search
