Hi Charles! The chuck is fixed to the spindle by a bolt (with Ph2 or hex head), you can find the bolt head if you look directly into the chuck (with its jaws completely opened). You'll just need to fix the chuck (with your hand most probably), and unscrew that fixing bolt (might be with left-hand thread! - don't use excessive moment, first try it gently both ways). After removing the bolt you'll just need to gently tap the bottom of the chuck - through a piece of wood - with a hammer, to remove the chuck from the spindle. Gently is the key word - in order not to damage the chuck and ball bearings/gear set of the drill.
Below are 2 reference links from Craftsman and Sears Parts catalogue - may help you as well.

SOURCE: drill chuck removal

The screw should be left hand thread and the chuck is normal thread. The 'workshop' way to remove the chuck is to remove the screw (done). If the jaws are still working then clamp a sturdy allen key in it and whack it against a workbench to unscrew the chuck. If holding the drill in the normal position you would stand with the workbench to your left and whack it down on that. If the jaws aren't working then you can grip the body in a vice and use large pipe grips or stiltsons on the chuck. Also check to see if the chuck spindle will accept a thin spanner to hold it, as this is a slightly more caring way to brace the spindle. Then you can can hold the spanner in the vice and use the allen key in the chuck and unscrew it that way.

SOURCE: How do I remove a keyless chuck from my Sears drill.

The chuck is screwed on with a normal thread, the screw in the centre (already removed) is left hand thread. Holding the drill with the open end of the chuck facing you, it should unscrew anti clockwise. It might take an impact to start it off. I normally put the gearbox to slow, set the cluth to drill and then holding the drill firmly, hit the allen key against the edge of my workbench. Bring the drill down like a hammer blow so the allen key hits the bench (which should be on your left). I find this more effective than holding the drill on the bench and hititng the allen key with a hammer as it allows for less drill movement at the point of impact.

If the chuck itself slips, you can tear down the outer layers (yes it is a bit brutal)
of the chuck until you reach the inner metal core. You can then try several things;
1 loosen it with a pipe wrench, provided you can get a grip on the axle of the chuck to counter the torque
2 Weld an allen key to the metal core of the chuck and use a firm rapid blow by a hammer to rotate it counterclockwise
3 Dismantle the final shaft with the chuck core, and set it in a vise with aluminium plates to protect it, while you turn the chuck with a wrench or pliers.
4.If there is no senter lock screw inside the bottom of the chuck it may be fitted with a thread locking compound. It will loosen easilier if heated with a heat gun or moderate gas heat.Only supply just enough heat to loosen it, or the hardening of the steel may be compromised.

I need to remove the jakobs chuck from my makita 2030 hammer drill

Open the chuck fully and remove the set screw inside it. The screw has left handed threads and is most likely lock-tited in so get a firm grip on it and turn it clockwise to remove it. The chuck is right threaded but put on very tight. The best way to losen it is to lock the short leg of a 1/2-inch allen wrench firmly in the chuck so you can hit the long leg with a hammer. If the spindle below the chuck has flat spots for a wrench, lock the wrench in a vice and put the spindle in it so you can hit the allen wrench hard enough to break the chuck free. When you put a chuck back on use a drop of lock-tite on the spindle and screw threads and turn them on as tight as you can.

I want to know the steps needed to replace a 1/2" keyed chuck.on a Milwaukee 0234-6 Magnum Drill

they make a service fixture for that BUT if you can find a thin wall open end wrench that will fit behind the chuck on the hex of the spindle you can still do it. What you will need to do is remove the left hand chuck retaining screw, put the wrench or similar item over the hex and then put the chuck key in a hole that is about a 30 degree so that you can strike it counter clockwise to remove. That chuck is on tight and there no easy way to remove it like you can do on cordless items.

I HAVE A DEWALT 511 HAMMER DRILL AND I CAN'T REMOVE THE CHUCK. COULD PLEASE ADVISE ME ON WHAT TO DO.

Open the chuck fully and look inside, there should be a screw there that has to be removed to remove the chuck in view of the fact that it is a reversable drill and the chuck cannot be screwed off like a conventional inudirectional drill.

Cannot remove drill from chuck

Remove the REVERSE-THREAD screw at the bottom of the chuck. Set the clutch collar to the highest setting, and set the gear to the slowest setting on the transmission. Remove the power source! Get the biggest allen wrench you can fit in the end of the chuck(the shortest leg) and tighten the chuck down around it, allowing the jaws to rest and tighten on the flats of the wrench. Lay the drill on its side(chuck toward you, handle to the left, and allen wrench to the left, horizontal to the deck. Then with a hammer(soft hammer if you care about the allen wrench) quickly and deliberately hit the allen wrench in an attempt to cause the allen wrench to spin counter clockwise. Let me know if this works for you!

Need to change chuck

When you buy a replacement chuck it will have detailed instructions- at least Jacob's brand chucks do. Basically there is a retaining screw inside the chuck that needs to come out first- it may be left-hand threads . Then you put the short end of a 1/4" or larger allen wrench in the chuck and close it tightly. Set the drill on a bench with the chuck off of the bench and strike the allen wrench with a mallet in a counterclockwise direction. Do this several times, then you'll be able to spin the chuck off by hand. Reverse the process to install the new chuck.

Chuck on Bosch 1194 vsr drill is rusted... how to remove?

you are half right. The screw that you see is a chuck retaining screw (LH thread) to keep the chuck from loosening up when in reverse. What you need to do is if you have one remove it first and then find a bent handle allen wrench about the size of the chuck capacity, lock the shorter end in the jaws and then position the wrench at about a 30 deg angle and put the chuck on a block of wood or bench and take a hammer and hit it counter clockwise. If you have a wrench small enough to lock onto the spindle use it and brace it on the bench. If this tool has a high and low setting use the low and if clutch equipped the drill only. Let me know if you need more help
