Electric spa control?
what do you mean pump shorts out? Are you saying a breaker trips or a GFCI trips?
if so, it has nothing to do with the pump, if it's already running. But once the heater engages and the breaker trips, then you have about heater element.

Torpedo Heater Pump Pressure Adjustment

The most critical factor in getting your kerosene torpedo heater to run is the air pressure that the pump puts out. This air pressure is what pulls the fuel out of the bottom of the heater. It is very important that this is set correctly.


You will need a low pressure gauge (0-15 PSI) and a screw driver to make this adjustment.

On the back of your heater there will be a short and a long protrusion. Pull the plug out of the short one and insert the pressure gauge. The longer one is the adjuster screw. This is a very simple device that has a ball a spring and a set screw. Turn in on this screw just places more tension on the ball to allow less air to escape and raise the pressure inside the heater.

If you cannot get a high enough pressure then there is a leak or the pump is worn too much. To check for a leak use soapy water and check all the parts. The black plastic back can crack or the cork of the pump gasket can leak. Sometimes the rotor and vanes will go bad but not likely.

So, insert the pressure gauge in the short port, start the motor and check reading, you will only have a short time to do this if your heater is not firing. Turn the longer screw in or clockwise to raise the pressure and out CCW to decrease the pressure. Adjust to factory specs. And you will be getting warmed up.

Water switch open , heater heats up for short period and cuts out

ensure pump is running at full prime. clean the filter out as well. disconnect both connections from pressure switch in raypack heater. check continuity. if switch opens at any point and you have no flow restrictions then replace the pressure switch

need more info does whole thing trip off sounds like shorted heater element if you are able to disconnect heater leads and thing stays on bad heater be careful its either 110 volts or 220 volts if your not familiar with this call a professional

New heater was left dry for 4 weeks while spa pump was replaced. turned back on with error code Fault-shorted H20 Sensor. is it truly in need of replacement or can it be cleaned after sitting and rusting?

You can put an ohm meter on the two wires of the temp sensor and see how much resistance you get. I can't find the chart right now but you should read about 15,000 ohms at a water temp of 88 degrees. Resistance drops as temp rises. A "short" will give you the same result as just holding the two test leads together.

Having the heater idle for a few weeks should not have affected anything. The temp sensor isn't too hard to change yourself if needed.

My Jandy Laars LX 400,000 BTU heater flashes "low pressure". I removed the water pressure switch in the heater and turned on the pump and water flows nicely out of the copper tube for the water pressure...

Once you try to ignite three times in succession, and the heater doesn't sense the presence of flame, the heater goes into "lockout" mode and must be reset to fire. This can be done by pressing and releasing the mode button so that the heater is turned off then returned to the desired mode. So if you were going to "jumper" the pressure switch, (connecting two wires together) make sure you do the reset also. Make sure you don't operate like this, if your pump quit, you could have a melt down. Also If you have anything connected to the fireman switch, it is in series with the pressure switch,and woud display the same thing. There is a terminal with two white wires, if there is a jumper there, then nothing conected, but if there is something connected, make sure it is closed. Also be sure your code was for Water pressure and not air pressure switch. You can download manuals at:

I have a brand new Raypak heater. Pump is on

Umitherm governor (looks like an automotive thermostat) is bad or bypass valve defective. Both of these are in the header. You should have a manual bypass valve on the pool plumbing to regulate the flow in the heater. Try increasing or decreasing the water flow through the heater first.

110,000 heater will run for 15 seconds,will not fire

The rotor in the pump assembly may have broken or cracked and is binding the rotation of the motor. The pump assembly can be removed to inspect, clean and replace any parts that are damaged. The manual will step you through this procedure and can be done in a short period of time. Your local hardware store may be the replacement parts on the shelve.
