No agitation? first use a meter and check ur water pressure switch? that is what sends the machine the message to start wash cycle? You can test it with a meter and with a manual test? ( first locate it in the panel, it has a plastic clear tube hose going into it, remove that tube from its connection, now put another small tube or hose into the slot where it was and have the machine set to wash cycle with water in it. Blow into the other end of the tube. If the machine starts to wash. the pressure switch is more than likely good. now take the original hose tube and plug one end and blow into it the other end, it should be hard and have pressure, if it is easy to blow and u dont feel any pressure and it feels like the air is going out ?
sometimes they get busted open or a pin hole and release air causing the water switch diaphram to not open.
If both check ok then next CHECK the motor coupler or belt if belt driven.check with a multi meter for continuity the door switch, and if there is a little movement on wash cycle in 1 direction only then check the cam dogs in agitator.

My kitchenAid clothes washer won't always agitate but the timer will finish the cycle

Possible that the timer is not switching the circuit to the designed cycles and so it does not go to the spin mode. It can be due to loss in mechanical contact due to worn out points or dirt accumulation. Use a cleaner, WD40 , could be good to try on the timer before you can estimate the cost of a timer.

Tip

WASHER WON"T AGITATE

If you have a washer that has a weak agitation or no agitation at all, here are some possible solutions. You need to check your belts. Most washers have one or two belts. Check your lid switch. If a lid switch is bad, it can cause the washer to not work properly. Sometimes, they will not work at all. Make sure you check your drive motor. The drive motor controls the spinning, draining, and agitation. Most washers have the reverse motor, meaning the shaft rotates in both directions, clockwise and counterclockwise. It is possible to lose one direction and not the other. Some washers have a clutch that controls the agitation. If it is bad or worn, it may prevent the agitator to work. Most of these washers come from General Electric. You could have a bad motor coupler. They are located on the side of the motor drive inside the washer. It is also possible that you have a bad transmission. Check the agitator itself. You could have a bad spline or two. The splin accompanies the shaft and allows the movement of the agitator. If you rule out all the parts above, you may have an electrical issue or an issue with the control board. It is very important to test each part and make sure it is getting power. If a part is not working and not getting any power, the power loss may be the reason that it doesn't work. You can test the current in the wires with a voltage meter. Thank you very much for reading this tip and thank you for using Fixya.

Maytag washer will not agitate

A Maytag A412 is well over 20 years old....
Best guess is a corroded upper drive shaft, the one that the agitator is mounted on. Certainly it can be called a transmission problem.

Power on but not spinning

BBI9: It appears that your mixer’s had afailure in the transmission box or planetary gear assembly (agitator); oneof the main gears has failed, hence the loss of power to the agitator. You didn't mention any associated noise priorto the loss of power to your agitator, but I'm assuming there was just a littlemore noise than usual, prior to the failure. The inspection and troubleshooting of the mixer transmission is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the correct Part Listmanual around when you start to disassemble your mixer. If you're lacking one, you can download itfrom the KA website (http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home). Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in your case K45SSW, andthen select Parts List (1) file (definitely check to see it this matches yourmixer). Turn to pages 4 & 5, titled'Case, Gearing & Planetary Unit, for the disassembly, troubleshooting, andreassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. It may be messy but gratifying. Once apart you can check for any otherunseemly wear and tear on the gears, etc. You may find that it's just one particular gearthat's stripped.
Here’s a link to an excellent site for disassembling/fixing your KA Mixer: http://www.neilcrockett.com/mixer.htmand another link to a site that details the disassembly and replacement of amixer's grease, which might be helpful, too. http://www.foodonthefood.com/food_on_the_food/2009/04/how-to-repair-a-kitchenaid-mixer-yourself.htmlt

As far as parts go,here are four potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com;mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com. Prices for the same part may vary widelybetween vendors, so do your comparison shopping. Good luck and have fun. I hope this helps.Howard, Burke, VA

Whirlpool Imperial Washer LA9200XWN1 Does not agitate like it did

HI, this will happen over a long period of operation time. This is repairable and, you will need to purchase an agitator kit from whirlpool or, an aftermarket circuit. installing a new agitator kit will fix this issue.

one or more of the main agitator components have become stripped or, damaged.

Agitator problem

Check and see if it spins freely in both directions. If it does, this means that your "dogs" are worn out in the top agitator. This is an easy fix. You just get the new ones (usually 10$ or less), pull the top cover off the agitator, then pull the center cap off inside of the agitator. Then you just remove the center bolt and pull the whole top agitator off. You will see the 4 plastic dogs right on the top of the agitator.
