SOURCE: Kitchenaid KECC502 Electric Cooktop: LED light

I wish I had the exact answer, because I have the same exact problem!!! You posted this about a month ago, which is when my unit started having LED "on" problems. Just in the past week, the top left power on LED will not go off, and nothing I can do gets the dual large burner to come on. Any thoughts??? Reply to: mchunko@csonka.com

I need to replace two blue indicator lights and I need directions

I have replaced several of the indicator lights in the control knobs.

Turns out that Dacor doesn't sell exact replacement lights (actually LED modules).

What I did was to go to a local electronics supply store and purchase Blue replacement LEDs and a current limiting resistor to connect in series. Replacement LEDs can vary in brightness depending on your taste ... I chose a super bright LED which makes the control knobs noticeably brighter. The value of resistor will vary depending on the LED you choose (brighter LEDs need slightly more current and as such the resistor value will be slightly less).

Once you've opened the range from the top (remove knobs, grates and burners) then remove a few screws and the entire unit opens with a hinge in the back.
Look over the LED light modules which shine just below each knob and fashion a replacement LED assembly.

Total material cost per LED unit was ~ $2-3 (LED, resistor, wire and heat-shrink tubing)

Ignitor does not spark on first turn as stated in manual. I have to turn the knob past "lite" before flame comes on.

Is it just one burner knob that does that are all of them? If it is just one then the igniter switch built into the burner knob might be out of alignment or loose. This happens most of the time due to a cracked switch housing(made of plastic). This can also happen if the actual burner knob is cracked and/or loose. If all the burners do this then it is just the way the cooktop works. The best way to get the burners to light is by slowly turning them on until they light and not pay attention to the "light" mark. You might need to turn it just past the "light" mark for the burner to come on.

I have a JGP636 or 960. One burner won't do

When you turn the burner knob on does the igniter click and turn off on it's own when the flame ignites? If it does then it has flame rectification. That means it can sense when the flame is on. Or does it click when the knob is in the light position and not stop until you move the burner knob? Then this is standard ignition. If it is standard ignition it sounds like it is the igniter switch built into the burner knob might be defective. Are you able to turn on any burner knob and when they are in the igniter position do all the electrodes spark or just the burner that you are turning on? If they all come on then they are wired in a series. If they are wired in a series do you get a spark at the electrode of the problem igniter? If so you can turn on one of the other burners to ignition position then while it is clicking turn on the problem burner to light it. If the cooktop uses flame rectification then there may be a problem with the switch built into the burner knob or the flame rectification sensor for that burner might be bad.

Intermittant/interrupted ignition device

The problem here is that the port holes in the burners are probably clogged. Clean ALL burners by taking a toothpick and unclogging the port holes. As for the position problem, if you have independant igniters, as some models do, you may need to replace the igniter. Remove knob and remove igniter,(white rectangular item with two wires) remove wires and replace.

Burner light does not go off on Amana AKT3040

Sounds like a short in that particular burner circuit. Usually when the light stays on even after cool down the heat sensor is bad. This is inside the burner. If your getting white smoke the burner switch could also be shorted out.

Disassembly to replace LED burner indicator

I'm not an expert, but I just had mine apart. You should take the panel off from beneath the control panel. This is a matter of removing about 6-8 screws and slipping the small piece of sheet metal out. You may then be able to find your "missing" LED, which is probably dangling inside the control panel assembly area. I believe there is simply a tab or other simply fastening clip that you slip the LED back onto; this holds the LED against the control panel. Assuming the LED is still working and still wired to the knob, it should work fine.
