Question about Garden

1 Answer

Just starting to use this spring, and having fuel starvation issues. I ran it this winter a couple times and it ran properly.

Now, its less than a year old, I could not get it started at all yesterday. today it starts on the full choke position and it runs fairly well on medium choke position but wont run at all when you run it in the final run position. in the medium choke position, I tried to throttle it, it would throttle up but would lean out and die.

Add a little carb cleaner to the gas and try letting it run on half choke for a while longer .

Rough ideling and major missing, tried new plugs, wires and fuel filter, seems to smoothen out at high rpm

Did you pour in some type of fuel stabilizer before you parked it? If not, drain the fuel tank and refill it with fresh gas; replace the fuel filter again.
Unleaded fuel will separate after a short time and can cause a number of problems afterwards until everything is cleaned out.

Time to Winterize your lawn equipment.

Fall is here and now is the time to winterize your lawn equipment.

If you plan on using your equipment into the winter, then this is the time to stabilize and winterize your fuel. If you have any fuel left over from the summer, use it up now and get fresh fuel for the winter. Gasoline starts to "oxidize" in as little as 60 days. So take the older, stale fuel and use it up. Mix it with the good gas in your car if you have very much left over.

To winterize your fuel, start with fresh gasoline. Buy fresh gas from a station that sells alot of fuel, that way you are getting the freshest fuel possible. Add a stabilizer to the gasoline. I use "Sta-bil" brand, but you can use any brand of stabilizer that is local to you. Read the directions on the bottle and mix it with the gasoline. Fill the tank on your equipment and allow it to run for about 5 minutes. This will make sure the stabilized fuel is in all sections of the engine that have gasoline. Top off the tank and then store you equipment in a dry area. When spring comes around, you will be ready to use your equipment.

If you are still using your equipment, prep your fuel as above and make sure to top off the tank after each use. A full gas tank is less likely to absorb water from the humidity in the air.

This is also a good time to check the air filter.

We'll change the oil and sharpen the blade in the Spring.

Good Luck!

Hard to start Chevy 2000 Silverado 1500 .2nd or 3rd time it starts up Runs great but hard to start

hard starts.
1: needs a tune up. spark plugs then filters
2: are you running winter fuel, how cold is it? where are you?
Alaska or Miami.? (important that)
3: fast cranking speeds, is it, normal, only you know that.
4: ECT not reading wrong.
5: bad fuel, water in fuel.
6: ISC stuck closed, (they can gum up and prevent proper fresh air for staring, and will cause cold start flooding.

I always make sure my ISC is opening for startup.
the check my plugs to see if cold starts are due to flooding
or fuel starvation. test fuel proves this too.

and with fuel injection, one injector can leak , and overnight
the next morn, one cyl is flooded.
this takes careful testing to find.
8 cyclinders, check them all for flooding is the path for that.

Will start but only run less than a minute

If it starts on choke, runs a short period after the choke is pushed in it is a fuel starvation issue, remove the fuel hose in the tank and replace the filter on the end, at the same time check the condition of the hose up to the carb, any signs of splits or cracks and the hose will need replacement.

2000 Chevy Malibu, I have to crank it several times before it will start. The engine has also stalled on me a couple of times while driving. It has 140,000 miles. Regular oil changes. Battery is good....

Can you hear the fuel pump hum for a couple of seconds when you turn key to ON? Seems like a possible fuel starvation issue. If fuel pump hums, the filter may need replacing.
