Question about Totaline P474-0130 Non-Programmable 1 Heat/1 Cool Thermostat

2 Answers

House heat wont work but a/c works fine.

When i turn the heater on the unit starts like normal, and then shuts off immediately, repeating that cycle 100 times before i get annoyed enough to get up and shut it off completely. but during the day i turn the a/c on and everything works perfect. Batteries are new, filters always changed on time, so where is the big red reset switch i can push??

I doubt the problem is in the thermostat with the info you've provided.

If it cuts off immediately and is a fairly NEW furnace, look at the front of the furnace and see if there is a plastic covered inspection hole. If so, look through the port and look for blinking lights, red, green or possibly yellow. There may be one or there may be two side by side. Count the blinks and then remove the door and look inside it for a list of failure codes. That should get you going in the direction you need to figure out what to do.

If you cycle the power switch, all the failure codes will disappear and a steady heartbeat should appear that should indicate that the system is reset and ready to attempt a cycle again.

Outside unit runs for about 5 seconds then shuts off for a few seconds. It repeats this cycle.

Put in a 5 minute time delay. It is a two wire device in line with the contactor. Sounds like it is set to 75 turns of at 74 and repeats. The tstat should have a differential of 2 degrees as well.

Hi

If clean light is blinking then it may be an issue with heater circuit, door switch or wash pump, please reset the power to the dishwasher. After, 5 minutes check if you are still getting the same error. If yes, then it is a water heating fault. To resolve this error try pressing this reset sequence-- Heat Dry - Normal - Heat Dry - Normal or High Temp - Air Dry - High Temp - Air Dry or Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry, Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry or High Temp Wash-Heated Dry-High Temp Wash-Heated Dry . Now let the unit run for 2-3 minutes and then you press the Cancel/Drain button and allow it to completely drain and reset. If this doesn't work then it's an issue with the wash pump not pumping the water past the heater efficiently or due to lack of water to heat. Please make sure that heater is not open circuited and is heating the water efficiently. You'll have to check the heater using a multimeter; the meter should read between 3000 to 3300 ohms (Use multimeter on Rx1 ohm setting). If heater is fine then make sure water pressure is optimum and fill valve is working fine. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Rex4634kq1 element only heats for about 30 seconds, i have cleaned complete lint housin, the element housing and the exhaust tube, all of them checked out fine. what sensor need replace

Most possible that the thermostat , the thermocouple , is faulty or the control unit is sensing the temperature in advance to quit.
You might have to start with the sensor - the thermocouple- check if after cooling the thermocouple the heating works, Next check on the timer controller, If there is a timing loss then it is possible that the controller is shutting off the heater. you might have to access and check the reason for the immediate shut down, if so the malfunction can be this unit.

My central heating unit is in the attic of my 2bd/2bth house. I don't know its age. It's a gas unit, but doesn't have a constant pilot flame. Rather, the pilot is ignited electronically. The problem is...

You don't mention make or model so here is my guess as to how to thinkout the trouble of what ever is in your attic.

For some reason, your heater is mis-firing. Normally, I would expect 3 to 5 such events at which time the heater goes out on safety. The heater knows it is on safety but you don't until it gets cold in your house. When you turn the power off, wait the 30 seconds, turn it back on, the heater no longer knows it is on safety (memory cleared) so it fires. Your heater continues to fire until ? at which time it starts counting again to 3 or some number. At the max mis-fire number - it goes out on safety again ... repeat - turn it off, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on - no memory and so forth.

Do you have a service contract or regular service man? Might be time to find one.

Eratic function

it is the control valve - however not in the sense that IT is bad - the thermocouple on your unit is bad.

The purpose of the thermocouple is to convert the heat from the pilot to a miniscule amount of energy that the control valve senses letting it know the pilot is present... a default safety so gas does not fill the house!

With no pilot (which you have) or no SIGNAL to the control valve, it will not open to allow the burners fuel for ignition.

Sometimes the thermocouple is out of position (should be at the tip of the pilot light)...

Sometimes it is covered in soot, and can be cleaned with a fine sandpaper...

Sometimes it needs to be replaced altogether.

Most thermocouples are generic, but some are a specific value. Check with your manufacturer for a part #.

Dayton 3E227A Heating Cycle

The sensor for the thermostat is probably going bad or has bad connections. It is (or thinks it is) heating up fast and therefore shuts of the heater.
