Hi Kenny:
Had one of these on the farm when I was a kid.
Can you expand your question please.
Are the hydraulics working properly?
Does the engine give problems at higher RPM?
We'll do what we can to help once we understand the problem.
Keep that old iron running!

Start with making sure your oil lever is not over full. If it is it may be getting into the crankcase breather hose that goes to the carburetor hence the white smoke. Sometimes also you can blow a gasket in the breather system and it will do the same. Check for oil leaks in the breather system. Hope this helps. donnyb60

SOURCE: my 1949 8N Ford tractor, the starter just spins

My thought is you need a new "bendix" for lack of a better word. The device I speak of spins out and connects with the flywheel. There is the possibility you have electric problems but based on what you say, I think it is mechanical.

Brake pedal hard with engine running, same as engine off

Check fluid levels in your power steering/brake reservoirs and look for hydraulic fluid leaks in the power steering and brake lines. Could be a bad power steering pump too. Your owners manual should show positions of hydraulic reservoirs.

Hello my name is John. I have a 345 John Deere lawn tractor. The problem is that it starts idles rough won't idle up and does not run strong enough to move the mower. It just chugs and puffs white smoke...

345's have a habit of the choke sticking at the carb.Another problem they have is the fuel pump diaphram will crack and allow your engine to fill up with fuel,to much fuel in crankcase will end up past the rings when not running and smoke pretty bad when fired up.

8N's are positive ground negative run...hence the negative wire to the battery. Try jumping the starter solenoid and see if you have a bad solenoid. A second answer could be in your battery. You have a 6 volt battery so be sure to check the charge on the battery.

Ford 8n gets hot, may need to be timed,Step by step needed.

This is everything that i know that will make an 8N run hot...a stopped up radiator(inside)..a radiator that is filled with debris in the cooling fins..a bad thermostat(located in the upper radiator hose..if it has one).....a stopped up block..bent fan shroud missing..a bad water pump..the fan belt slipping on the water pump ..a blown head gasket..low coolant..i hope this will help and one of them should fix it ..if not...please write me back

Ford 9n 3 point will not lift

Hey name is Keith..and i restore 9N's,2N's and 8N's ..and i can help you with your hydraulic problem...the most probable cause is the hydraulic safety relief valve and i would change that 1st..the part number for it is..8N-638..and they cost about 25 dollars..and to change either jack up the rear axle or you part the tractor down the hydraulic fluid goes to the front..and then you open up the side cover..that has the dip stick in it and unscrew the Safety relief valve from the hydraulic pump9located on the back side of the pump)..and install a new one..and have plenty of rags..because it is a mess job..and if you dont want to opent that cover again..i would replace the hydraulic control valve..part number costs about 35 dollars and its on the back side of the pump also..and dont forget to get a new cover gasket and that part number is 9N-4131 and it costs about 1 dollar..i hope this has helped..if not write me back and we will get into the hard stuff on the hydraulic system

Ticking noise from engine

You might have a bad hydraulic valve lifter (assuming this engine has them)... you could try an aftermarket product designed to unstick valve lifters.... any auto parts store carries them.
