Try reverse at high speed, without thread; to see if it will free up the mechanism.

Janome Jem Silver 662 will only sew backwards. How do I adjust it so it will feed fabric correctly?

1) Check the feed dog pressure adjustment. 2) Check the feeding mechanism at the bottom. It may be too low to feed your cloth.

I have cleaned and oiled my sewing machine according to book instructions. Before and after, it doesn't want to pull the material. Seems to want to sew in one spot. Can you help me know what to do?

check the feed dogs in the needle plate area to see if there up or down
look in the book and find where the lever is to change the position of the feed dogs. when there up the fabric will move, but when there down it stays in one place

I cleaned my machine, but after putting the plate back on, the feed dogs don't pull the fabric through now.

check the feed dogs to see if their up, you can see & feel them with your finger under the needle plate.
if the feed dogs are not up then somewhere in the cleaning the knob or lever got moved, go back thru what you did to find the feed dog knob,,it's always good to know where it at

I have 385 old model. my cloth is not moving.i have to pull against me to keep going.if i don't pull then it keeps stitching at one spot.i don't know if its feed dog lever is gone bad or something else is...

Difficult to say. Obviously, if you have the stitch length set high enough (at least 2.5 or higher) so the feed dogs should pull the fabric through the machine, then something is definitely off. If it were a purely mechanical machine, sometimes old oil has dried and "glues" the mechanical movement together so the parts seize. This happens in the older mechanical machines when they are not treated to regular cleaning and oiling. If this is the case, your machine could benefit from a professional cleaning and oiling. However, if a part is worn or broken, parts replacement could be required.

The other thing to consider is what kind of fabric you are sewing. If it is light-weight fabric like chiffon, sometimes the presser foot pressure adjustment needs to be increased. This applies more pressure between the presser foot and feed dogs so the feed dogs can grip the fabric better. Try stitching on different weights of fabric and see if there is any difference. Most machines do have a pressure adjustment. You just need to know where to look for it on your particular model. It's usually placed at the top left side of the machine and could be a "plunger" type, a screw that is tightened or loosened, or on newer machines, a dial. On older machines, sometimes it is under the top cover at the top of the presser foot bar.

Feed dogs are not pulling the material back

White sewing machine model 510, feed dog problem; fabric is not moving; I must firmly pull fabric through.

The feed dog is moving; fabric is not.

The fabric is not feeding properly; the fabric goes back and forth. However, the fabric does not continue to move away from me.

The feed dog is positioned up and is not smooth, it feels rough when I touch it with my fingers.

Because I had not used this sewing machine for a couple of years, before sewing, I cleaned the inside with the wire brush that came with the machine.

In an attempt to trouble shoot the problem, I applied varying pressure foot levels and stitch lengths.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the problem?

Kenmore Sewing machine model 385.1884180, feed dog quit pulling

A common malady with Kenmore sewing machines. The feed system needs lubrication and perhaps some solvent cleaning to loosen sticky pivot points. If you are adventurous, you could take off the bottom and oil all the moving parts. Or take it to a service person.

My kenmore 385 won't feed fabric

Check to see what pattern is selected. Be sure it isn't the buttonhole.Select straight stitch.Move the stitch length setting to 4.Turn the handwheel and see if the feed dogs move forward. Press the reverse lever and see if they move backwards. Select straight stretch stitch and turn the wheel to see if the feed dogs move forward and backward.Check the presser foot release on top of the machine and make sure there is pressure on the foot.
Sometimes the reverse assembly on this machine stops working because it has the wrong type of grease on it and it turns into a hard gummy mess that won't let it work.
