Question about Washing Machines
Have a really good look to see if there is a reset button on the machine check your manual for it as well
press it once that should reset the machine then it will put the machine back to normal

It is most likely a pressure switch. This is the water level switch. As water fills the tub, air pressure builds up in the rubber hose going to the switch. When the pressure is high enough for the water level setting, it trips the switch and puts the unit in wash cycle. Remove the control and start the machine. While it is agitating, remove the hose from the switch and see if the washer starts filling. If so, blow through the hose and see if something has clogged it. If you have a volt/ohm meter you can check across the terminals while you blow into the switch to see if it is working. Let me know what you find out.

It does sound like a mechanical problem, but probably deeper in the mechanism than the timer dial itself.

You have an electronic problem and have no choice but to call service!
If the washer is 10 years or older its not worth investing money to fix it! The new ones are mush more efficient and clean better!
Either way this is a service problem to remedy!
