John Deere eztrak mower went over a rock today and now the mower won't engage

hmm strange are the belts driving the blades ok if so then the PTO could be damaged but if there's no sign of damage it maybe a bit frozen up/locked up have the engien off but turn the key on and engage the PTO switch and manually turn the PTO (not by the blades please....dont want to have your hand taken off) turn by the PTO itself and if you hear any clicking sound disengage the PTO and engage a few times to ensure your hearing the clicking sound of the PTO turning on and off and it should be back to normal also check any connections going to the PTO before doing the manual work of repairing the PTO

How to replace mower belt for ZTR cub cadet mower

Changing the Blade Drive Belts:
a.Set the parking brake. Remove ignition key and both spark plug caps.
b.Unscrew the wing nuts from the deck covers and remove both covers.
c.Using a 3/8" socket breaker bar or socket ratchet insert the drive end into the 3/8" square opening in the lower idler arm assembly and push the idler arm counterclockwise. While holding the idler arm back, loosen the blade drive belt from the pulley and slide the belt away from the pulley.
d.Remove tension of the PTO belt by moving the belt tensioning rod. Loosen the belt retaining bolt.
e.Pull the tensioner pulley away from the belt and remove the PTO belt then remove the blade drive belt.
f.Reverse the process to install the belt.

How do you change blades on 5ft bush hog?

lift The brush hog up and place on blocks or other foundation that wont fall over. disconnect the power take off shaft from the tractor. Now look for two round openings in the middle of the deck one on ether side of the gear box (the thing on the brush hog that the pto shaft from the tractor hooks up to to make it spin there might be a slip clutch on the shaft but go to the box in the middle) Now turn the shaft till you see the blade nuts in the hole These could be castle nuts with a small carter pin locking them so they don't unscrew. Remove the pin and with a large socket set unscrew it from the bolt then knock the press fit bolt down and the blade will come off, do the same to the other blade if you need them both off. To put them back on use something under the blade and bolt to hold it up so you can start the nut then reverse the order and put everything back on. The blade bolt might be stubborn to get out just take something that fits through the access hole like a wood doll or long punch and drive the bolt down till it comes out as it is press fit and is jammed up to keep the bolt from turning, when putting it back on you will need to make it tight so the bolt can repress back in. Be Careful when reaching under to set the blade and bolt back in. There is not much you can mess up it is just a big nut and bolt Just make sure you put the blade on the way it came off if you do one blade or one at a time you can look at the other to see which way it goes.

WHEN I PULL THE BLADE ENGAGEMENT BUTTON, THE BLADES DO NOT ENGAGE.

Check the connector at the switch that engages the blades (PTO switch). Pull it off, make sure the pins are clean, and replug it firmly. Do the same at the connector at the PTO clutch, which is mounted on the engine pulley. Look for a broken wire at the same time.
It's very possible the PTO switch itself could be bad. It can be tested with an ohmmeter if you understand the internal operation. If not, just remove it and take it to Sears to get a replacement.

PTO Tension JD 155C

Look between top of deck and bottom of machine for a rod coming from the rear topside of deck and going up to bottom of machine.Where it connects to machine there is a small pin you must pull to disconnect it.Once done loosen locknut and turn collar in,away from nut,3 or 4 turns to give PTO lever more pull.Tighten locknut, put rod/collar up and over crossbar and into hole it came out of,install pin.You may need to move PTO lever as if you were going to engage blades to help collar line up with hole.

Cub Cadet-Blades won't stay engaged

sounds like either a saftey switch problem or a bad drive clutch on the pto. usuallly the mower shuts down, not the blades, they may have changed this though. my best guess would be a safety sensor try calling your local cub dealer and talking to the repair person he can shed light on the problem.
