the spare parts won't be so much, if you try and fix it yourself, you will save a ton of money otherwise it could be around $100 to send it in and get it fixed. You can start finding the problem by opening the screws on the bottom/back of the camera and find what gears are jammed and won't zoom. or I can get you a number to call to send it in, thanks
As long as the card is not an "H" or "M" type card (new configuration, not compatible with your camera, all you need to do is perform a "format" via the setup menu. That will prepare the card for use, however it will erase anything on it.

After the basics, try dropping the camera on a carpeted area from about 2-3 feet. It worked for my Fuji A500 and 90% of the responders on the link.Everything on the web said it would cost ~$100 to fix.I was in the process of researching new cameras to buy and had nothing to lose by dropping it on the floor.
The error may be caused by debris in the zoom mechanism preventing it from working.Dropping the camera loosens the debris and voila!
Are you trying to use a new xD memory card?
The A330 will only accept xD cards with no small letters before the disk size.
I have a card "H512MB" and can't use that one.
There is a firmware upgrade to allow you to use a "M512MB" card.
You can see what version of camera firmware you're using by following the instructions here:
Also tells you how to download the upgrade to use type "M" xD cards.
look for a tiny pinhole and insert a pin while powered up to reset...if this does not work, if you get to the point to see any electric motor, then apply a battery powered set of jumper wires to the motor to manually run the zoom back and forth. start with one battery (1.5 volts) only!
Hello, there is an electrical contact area on each side of the zoom button, one for in, and one for out. The contact area for the out side of the zoom is either dirty, or broken. First, you might want to spray just a little of some contact cleaner (you can get it at any radio shack or hardware store) around the button over the zoom out contact. Then push the button (without the power on) about 20 or 30 times. Power up and see if it works. Please let me know.
